to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant teperature sensor and MAF
sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to
read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with

properly closed. The alarm cannot properly arm if any of the doors or
other openings are not closed.

synchronized with the vehicle to function. To synchronize the remote
with the car, aim the remote at the vehicle and press the lock or unlock
button twice. Next, place the key in the vehicle's ignition and turn
the ignition switch to the "On" position. All of the steps must be
completed within 30 seconds.

is armed by looking at the alarm indicator on the dash. If the alarm is
properly armed, the alarm indicator light should blink.

Very hard to diagnose nav /stereo units. Check fuse box to make sure it's getting a good power supply. Try spraying WD-40 or contact lens cleaner in the switches to see if any of them are stuck. Consider replacing entire unit w/ one from eBay, preferably with some kind of warranty. Also, check Crutchfield.com for new alternatives. A factory replacement, if you can find one, is likely to be really expensive.
