Noise in Susp or Steering ("clunking") Chrysler Town & Country

When going over any kind of uneven surface, a "knocking" or "clunking" sound comes from the front suspension (or some steering component?). The car is a 2005 model.

Pretty common item on those is the upper strut mount & bearing assy. If it sounds like front wheel area. If it feels like it's under your feet, stabilizer bushings. Mounts are about $50 each roughly, but don't try to install yourself unless you have proper compression tools & are experienced at that particular job, as it could get very dangerous.

DVDs stuck in factory-installed 6-disc DVD movie player

I have a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.  4 DVDs are stuck in the changer and won't come out.  The dealer option is to replace the whole thing for $450 installed.  I am seeking solutions for me to try and/or companies that repair things like this (if any exist in the Washington DC area).

Disclaimer: I am not a professional. This is an account of what I did to replace my DVD changer. If I had been offered the $450 installed option, I would have taken it.

According to the boys at Car Toys and the dealer, once these DVD changers go, they have to be replaced. The dealer quoted me $705, but I found one on E-bay from a highly rated seller for $400. I was able to pull out the DVD changer by popping off the trim betwee the DVD player and the cup holder, and then removing two screws. Note that it may help to remove the cup holder.

Once those two screws at the bottom are removed, it just takes a firm tug on console shell below the DVD player for the whole face of the console to come off. Disconnecting the airbag indicator connector will allow the console face to be pulled far enough away to get at the DVD changer. All connectors have a tab you need to press while pulling.

Two more screws need to be removed to get the DVD changer out. With those screws removed, another firm tug and wiggle will release the DVD changer. You'll probably hear a metal popping sound, which is just the rear grounding tab (I think that's what it is) pulling free from the cage.

Once you can reach the two wiring harnesses behind the DVD changer, pull on the wire bundle to give yourself some slack to work with, while not stressing the cable assemblies too much. Disconect the two connectors at the back of the DVD changer. At that point the DVD changer can be removed, and you can search on E-bay for the part number. My unit had a complete wiring diagram for the two connectors on the sticker, but I couldn't find anyone with the right connectors to install an aftermarket system.

I haven't received the new part yet, so I'm a little nervous about the correct order of connector installation. I'll probably pull the battery terminals while installing the new unit, but here is where you are on your own. Good luck.

Look around the face plate for a very small hole...use a straightened paperclip or equivalent and press in a few inches...its a manuel door release and you should gain access to at least the loading tray.

Passenger sliding door motor won't close door all the way.

When using the power feature to close the passenger sliding door, it goes almost all the way closed and stops about 2 inches from closing all of the way. Have to manually close it the rest of the way. It doesn't matter which of the power switches is used to try to close it. The door opens fine with the power feature, just will not close all of the way. Seems like there is a dead spot in the motor or something only when closing.

My battery light comes on and steering wheel locks

My battery light comes on and steering wheel locks up. What could this be?

Steering wheel locks up? or does it get very hard to steer? If it gets very hard to steer sounds like your Serpentine belt is slipping. You may have a bad belt tensioner or possibly somthing leaking on belt causing it to slip. The belt runs the alternator and powersteering. Also check condition of the belt itself. Shiny or streached belt could cause it to slip also.

HAVEK 1005 sounds right on track.... but also try this, usually works well for non functional power windows, specially Caravans.

NO COST PROCEDURE TO FIX IT:

1. Sit in vehicle, on seat next to problematic window
2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is opened (in case you closed it)
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button pressed !!
5. SLAM hard the door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.
7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, but usually the first try works!

NOW, for the naysayers that says you must replace power window motors etc, at $$$ cost because the above fix does not work, or is not long lasting fix, or less than a "professional fix".... Well then, when the window fails to operate again, apply same fix again at that time.

I have fixed my van this way numerous times (usually once a year), and to all local friends I recommend this fix too, likewise do the same and are happy with the solution.

Which fuse controls the cigarette lighter and radio, mine are not working

I have a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van. I think I shorted out the cigarette lighter with a loose iPhone car charger. The radio is also not working. Is there only one fuse box in this model of van, under the hood on the right side? And which fuse/s control the cigarette lighter and radio? My manual doesn't designate the fuses and the diagram on the cover isn't very helpful. Thanks.

In the integrated power module, find 20A fuse 5. Replacing it should get both the cigar lighter and radio operating again
