LS430 check VSC light on after check engine light on
My car (06 GS430) began giving me more frequent "Check VSC" warnings. (Code P0455 in my case. Really glad I bought that OBDII tool--resetting the codes is a snap!)
I knew that a loose gas cap could cause this, so normally I just give it a twist and it tightens. Now I found that no matter how many "clicks" I tightened the gas cap, it would not cinch down snug. The lightest turn the opposite way would open it.
I was all set to head over to CarQuest for a replacement filler cap. But I thought I'd inspect mine first just to see why it stopped holding. Upon inspection, I saw that what holds the cap in place is compression of the rubber O-ring at the back of the cap, which compresses against the filler neck. That apparently was no longer happening.
I carefully removed the O-ring from the cap--using screwdrivers to lift it over the edge of the groove it sits in. Like removing a bike tire from the rim--work your way around. Then I cut a strip of electrical tape about 10" long, and 1/4" wide. I wound this into the curved groove where the O-ring normally sits, just to build up a little thickness. Put the O-ring back in place. Done.
Now the cap tightens like it's supposed to, and thus far, it has stopped the VSC error codes. Don't know if it will fix your issue or not, Good luck.

Emergency brake pedal won't release
Hi Johnnie:
Just did this fix on a GM. Should be similar for you.
If you can open the drivers door and put a cushion on the grougd to ease your knees, kneel next to the open door and look up under the dash where the release is located. You may need a flashlight, but the intent is to be able to see while you activate the release lever a few times.
What you will probably see is a sheathed cable. The end of the cable or the sheath anchor (rubber grommet in slot?) will probably be disconnected. The end of the cable has a knob that engages the release lever.
Make sure the vehicle transmission is in park. Use pliers or vice grips to pull the release lever.
First attach cable knob in release lever.
Then secure sheath anchor in slot.
Cheers.
Can mirror on passener side be replaced with any ls 430
Almost.
One way to tell is to find your year, and look on "e-bay".
People sell them on e-bay, and you will find what years and models are interchangeable.
I looked, and found interchangeable from '01 through '06.
God bless your efforts.
P0440 code
Causes
A code P0440 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
- The gas cap is not installed or working properly
- The purge solenoid has failed
- The canister is plugged and not working properly
Possible Solutions
With a P0440 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here
are some things to try:
- Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the code, and drive for a day and
see if the codes come back.
- Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
- Inspect for damaged or disconnected hoses around the Evap purge solenoid
- Check and/or replace the sensor
- Check and/or replace the purge valve
- Have a professional use a smoke machine to detect leaks
