Rough idle on subaru2001Forester
Sounds like you have a misfire in one of your cylinders. If you have a check engine light on get the code pulled. First things first, make sure you have had your oil changed and the air filter is clean. Also run some fuel injector cleaner through it as well if you have not within the last 3000 miles. If this is still a problem look into changing the spark plugs and wires. If you do that and it continues to be a problem you need to look at changing the ignition coil. If it still persists you may need to look at replacing one ore more fuel injectors. If this is still not fixing it you probably have a bent valve in a cylinder and you will have to get valve work done which is a spendy job.... Goodluck.

Visually check the belt to see if the piece you found was indeed from the belt. If so you should replace it ASAP If you dont you might end up stuck on the side of the road or worse! The belt drives the power steering pump the alternator the A/C and several other things.

please check that during the process of the cleaning the wires to the wheel sensors was remvoed by accident. Look under the car with a good light on the underside of the wheel drums.
One of them can be pluggged off.
How to remove the rear differential on a 2001 Subaru Forester?
I had a somewhat similar problem: I would hear scratching noise from the rear of the car whenerver I turn. I (reasonably) thought it was the differential and brought the car to the mechanic with this in mind. But it turned out to be a protective cover of one of the rear breaking discs that was bent by an impact. When I was turning the wheel would very slightly bend off the axis and the disc would scratch against the cover. So, it's not always the differential. BTW: I have Forester '03
The transmission is acting up.
most likely cause is the shift solenoid and/or trans fluid condition or lack of fluid
then there are the more serious issues of abuse and no fluid but we'll cross those bridges latter
do you have access to a professional scan tool?
NOT the type at an auto parts store
you may have stored codes that will assist in the diagnoses of this concern
and finally... what engine/trans combination do you have?
keep me posted

Engine will crank but not start
It sounds like a loose wire. Not the starter, if the starter cranks the engine over, it has to be the circuit for the ignition, Somewhere in there, I don't know about a relay, but maybe a loose wire to the coil, plug wires shorted out? Low on oil? Fuel pump cutting out? But if the code came up with circuit, I would be looking at the wires. Check it out.
Car misfires after rain or snow
well i would start looking at a spark problem coils, wires try by spraying a mist of water over the wires and coils with the engine running you will soon find out if thats your problem you will see sparks jumping and or the engine will start missing.
