Well, there are actually two different 3.0L engines used in a 2003 Mercury Sable. One is an Overhead-Valve (OHV) type engine. The other is a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) 24-valve engine. You can tell the difference by just looking at the engine or by checking the 8th digit in your VIN. For the OHV engine the 8th digit of the VIN will be a "U" and the DOHC engine will be an "S".

This is important information when it comes to getting parts or information for your vehicle.

You have to have the key programmed to the vehicle ,

Take the vehicle to an Autozone or Advance or Oreillys for a free diagnostic as long as the "check light" is on. This will give you one or more possible causes for the problem.

The likely place to look is the supply hose for the PCV. It deteriorates and the vacuum sucks it to a collapsed shape which causes it top crack. It very hard to find. Find a manual and look for the PCV system hoses.

Hi, depending on what ecm you want to reset, you need a shop, or dealer to do it. However, you can trying to unhook your pos. Batt. Cable and let it set overnight, that will reset most systems on your vech.

There is a quick disconnect tool you need. It pushes into the end of the coupler. About $5 at a parts store.

Hi Melissa , why do you want to do a reset ? Vehicle not cranking over - engine not turning over ? When you try to start it is the red light on top of the dash flashing faster then with key off ? When key off a flash will happen every 2 seconds ! When trying to start it flashes very fast. If having a anti-theft problem the starter will not engage !
