Module Controlled Functions
The multifunction modules consist of the following:
- generic electronic module (GEM)/central timer module (CTM)
- remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module (15K602)
The remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module controls the keyless entry, and computer operated locks systems.
The GEM/CTM controls the following features:
- wiper/washer (front/rear)
- warning chime
- battery saver
- illuminated entry and courtesy lamps
- driver one touch down power window (GEM only)
- accessory delay
- 4 wheel drive (GEM only)
- For keyless entry concerns, refer to Section 501-14B .
-
Keyless Entry
The keyless entry system components consist of the following:
- keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601)
- remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module (15K602)
- driver unlock relay (if equipped with two step unlocking)
- all unlock relay
- all lock relay
- keyless entry keypad (14A626)
The electronic door lock system has three main components: the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module, attached to the rear left hand quarter panel, the three-button (hand held) keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601), and the keyless entry keypad (14A626) on the driver side door.
The door locks are controlled by the RAP module through three external relays: the driver unlock relay (if equipped with two step unlocking), the all unlock relay, and the all lock relay. These relays are located in the relay box on the LH rear quarter panel.
The keyless entry remote transmitter initiates the following electronic door lock system functions:
- Unlocks the driver door (if equipped with two step unlocking).
- Unlocks all doors.
- Locks all doors.
- Enables the panic alarm.
- Issues the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking) commands to the generic electronic module (GEM).
- Sounds the horn (13832) once when LOCK on keyless entry remote transmitter is pressed twice, and doors are closed.
- Sounds the horn twice when LOCK on the keyless entry remote transmitter is pressed twice, and any door or the liftgate window is ajar.
- Allows up to four keyless entry remote transmitters to be programmed.
- The order that the transmitters are programmed into the module will set the memory seat to the corresponding position when the driver door is unlocked with the transmitter.
NOTE: The remote entry features will not function when the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN or ACC position.
The keyless entry remote transmitters are reprogrammable and must be set at the same time.
To confirm that the doors have been locked and that the anti-theft system has armed, press the LOCK button again, within five seconds of the first press. The horn will sound once if the doors have locked and all doors are closed.
- Inspection and Verification
- Verify the customer concern by operating the electronic door lock control system.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage; refer to the following chart:
Visual Inspection Chart
Mechanical
Electrical
- Fuse(s) 20 (7.5A), 9 (20A), 18 (10A), 1 (60A), and 25 (7.5A)
- Relays
- Wiring harness
- Loose or corroded connections
- Keyless entry keypad
- Remote transmitter
- Door open warning lamp switch
- If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the scan tool menu. If scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is properly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position.
- If scan tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the scan tool manual.
- Perform the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If the scan tool responds with:
- CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70 = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Section 418-00 .
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for RAP, go to Pinpoint Test A.
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM/CTM, go to Pinpoint Test G.
- SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and perform self-test diagnostics for the RAP.
- If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to RAP Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index or GEM/CTM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics.
- If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, proceed to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Taking your vehicle to a qualified repair shop mite be your best bet , one that has a scanner that can read these code

Battery want charge in mercury mountaineer
How did you check the fuse ? look at it ? Use a DMM - digital multi-meter an test for B+ voltage at the heavy gage wire on the back of the alternator . The connector that plug's into the alternator ,that has three wire's in it. This should have B+ voltage as well . Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? How to read one ? Free wiring diagram's here
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine ,then under subsystem click charging . Click the search button then the blue link . Test don't guess !
Replace head gasket
very difficult for a beginner
to start with , if it is a head gasket , the proper fix will require that the head be machined flat again to be effective in a good repair
you have made a lot of assumptions so now you need to get some facts
have a compression test done to determine if it a head gasket or cracked head
have the fault codes read to see if the problem is electronic or injector related
lastly only use accredited professional service centers that have experience on your maske of vehicle as they are bound by a code of ethics and a requirement to use only fully qualified mechanics and get quotes first
if you do the compression test and the fault code reading, that will give you knowledge to question any statements regarding "new motor " or other sayings that would indicate a gender bias and may just stop you getting ripped off
How do i emptythe gas tank on a 2000 mercury mountaineer
Here are two ways:
You can take the filler hose off from the gas tank and put a siphon hose in there. Siphon it into 5 gallon cans.
Another way is to pull off the main gas feed line that goes from tank to the engine. Just find a convenient spot to pull the line apart, like possibly right before the fuel filter. Then you will need to activate the fuel pump to have it push the gas out. The easiest way to activate the pump is to find the fuel pump relay (under the hood in the fuse/relay block) and pull it out. Then use a short jumper wire into the two correct terminals where the FPR plugs in. This will automatically start the fuel pump and you can push all the gas out of the tank.
Most of the time, the two terminals at the FPR will be numbered 30 and 87. Look on the relay for terminal identification. You are jumping the main power feed line at the relay to the line going to the fuel pump. Do not guess, or you could damage your engine computer if you put the jumper wire in the wrong terminal. At the relay, you are jumping the power side of relay. The other terminals at the relay are for the coil side of the relay. Jump the power side!
