2002 Suzuki Esteem Questions & Answers
What would cause my 2002 suzuki esteem to just die
Jamie, Is or was engine light on, are there any codes, was there any recent work done? The more info. the easier to help diagnose.
Removing the oil fill cap and have a helper crank the engine, while you look for cam movement,if you have cam movement that's good.
Next squirt some starter fluid in throttle body and try starting, try a couple times. If starts and revs fine while running on starter fluid, problem is a faulty fuel pump filter, fuse, relay or pump.
If it spits sputters or backfire while trying to start, timing belt has slipped probably and needs replaced.

How can i tell if my fuel pump is bad?
old post, but Ill answer this , as it seems most forums give bad advice. on this topic.
answer,. read the FSM , or alldata.com or suzuki pit stop plus
it shows 6 tests.
this car came with 2 diff. engines, G16b and J18.
and the tests are simular but data is different.
here are the tests in the FSM.
1: cranking pressure. 35 to 40 psi. this is a guess. no engine stated, so no real numbers... answered. only a guess.
2: running pressure (vac. drops it) drop about 6PSI running.
we now test the FPregular for proper reg. at 3 vacuum points. (a hand vacuum tool)
3: the shut test.
4: the leak down test.
5: the 4 tests for INJECTOR leak down tests. 1 by 1>
its really 8 tests.
now the shade tree test
fuel dont leak from rail, fitting cracked, cranking , pump dead
or lost 12vdc to pump cranking.
that be it, with no gauge. must DIY fail here if the fitting dribbles.
as dribble tests dont tell you if pressure is correct.
a carb can run on 0.1psi or gravity , only
but on EFI it takes, 28psi, min. (injectors makers rule , no mine)
DOOR LOCKS
If none of them are working, then check the fuses. If they will not work with the remote, but will work when manually pressing the lock button, check the remote battery.
Battery getting drained
great post and first to do fuse checks, for phantom drains.
G16 or J18 engine????
very good work. did you look at car in 100% dark,. all doors open , hood and trunk? called dark current checks.
and you are correct ,most fuses have many loads. some are 20 or more. (now windows ,usually)
DOME (im logged in to alldata.com so can you.....
Dome is doom, LOL called fuse #8 by suzuki.
a RED feed wire..... then white....
TCM, interior lights,trunk light,Radio, keyless,Clock and ECM
a real FSM make this far more easy, especially old cars.
and DC amp clamp meter 100x more easy.
alldata.com has the full set if schematics.
Sound baffle removal
name the part of car you are at.
there are 3000 parts on this car.
my wild guess, inside car?
or is this a body panel. ? somewhere inside or outside.
or is this and audio radio like question.
Install thermostat
there are 2 engines, 1.6L and 1.8, radical different.how to?drain coolant, unbolt thermostat housingremove old stat.put in new sat with bleed hole up, 1.8L, or forward 1.6L.and wax side to pump side, 1.8Land wax side down, 1.6L.wax , is that sensing puck on the bottom of STAT.
Subframe is rusted and doesn't hold the bolt for
you need a frame shop, find one and get helpif this is a tech question try to be more exact ,better us a photo.moving after welding? move the mount?this work takes great skill, and btw1; the FSM shows all the dimensions in the last chapter.just for such magic(under body)
Change headlight assembly
is the lamp bad or or the whole assembly.but varies by country.
http://www.scantool.net/software/alldata-diy-1-month-subscription.htmlgeneric? the whole deal.1: gain access to back and remove screws there. (even under fender)2: on some cars the front nose of car bezel must be removedgaining true access to lamp housings, and the screws.disconnect the socket wire (or replace bulb now)and then the housing screws. bingo its free.some cars, the hood opensand there is a plate that extends L/R across front of car.remove top plate and bingo , lamps.
Suzuki esteem evap system
there are only x many tricks for working in a wall of steel.?the body is steel and the tank is steel. (no xmen about.?)so? what are they. , there are only 2 , besides a monkey with skinny arms.1: lower front of tank only trick (or left or right only. as case may apply)2: look under rear seats for hatch covers, and yes, drop tank always works. (after drained)old post but im doing, no answered posts for 1hr, today
http://www.alldata.com/
Evap system
The FSM is clear on this. each hose and fitting must be air tight.or the the car vents gas fumes full time, and the EVAP ECU tests(monitor) make sure this all works.you can just look at the left and right side above rear tires. and seeif your hands are small enough to fit here. Id bet not.some mech, report, the tank can be tilted down at front (drained fuel)and gain access. keep in mind, you get fuel siphoning at any time. do not open the system, with fuel in the tank, and then drive to autozone, i loosen the gas cap so that pressure can not build in tank.expanding fuel can push fuel out , during a filter change. very dangerous in a garage, and you gone.it's just a vent hose, you can see, it and what needs to be done is really obvious. given you arms sides and lenght.my fsm states, " TANK pull"
Removal & Installation
-
Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
-
Remove the fuel filler cap from the fuel tank.
-
Have a Class B fire extinguisher near the work area. Use a hand
operated pump device to drain as much fuel through the fuel filler neck
as possible.
-
Use a siphon to remove the remainder of the fuel in the tank by connecting the siphon to the fuel pump outlet fitting.
CAUTION
Never drain or store fuel in an open container because there is the possibility of a fire or an explosion.
-
Reinstall the fuel filler cap.
-
Remove the rear seat cushion from vehicle (if so equipped).
-
Disconnect the fuel pump motor connector and sending unit electrical connectors.
-
Disconnect the wire harness grommet and harness through the vehicle floor pan.
-
Raise and safely support the vehicle.
-
Remove the fuel filler hose clamp from the filler neck assembly.
-
Remove the fuel breather hose clamp from the filler neck assembly.
-
Remove the fuel filter inlet hose clamp and hose from the filter.
NOTE
A small amount of fuel may be
released after the fuel hose is disconnected. In order to reduce the
chance of personal injury, cover the fitting to be disconnected with a
shop towel.
-
Remove the fuel vapor clamp and hose, and fuel return hose clamps and hose from the respective fuel lines.
-
Using a suitable transaxle jack, support the fuel tank.
-
Remove the fuel tank retaining bolts and lower the tank.
To install:

Reconnect all fuel hoses, lines and the fuel breather hose to the fuel tank.
-
Place the fuel tank in its proper space using the transaxle jack, Install the fuel tank retaining bolts.
-
Remove the transaxle jack.
-
Reconnect all fuel hoses, lines and the fuel breather hose to the fuel tank.
-
Install the fuel breather hose and hose clamp to the filler neck assembly.
-
Install the fuel vapor hose and hose clamps. Install the fuel return hose and hose clamp to the respective fuel lines.
-
Install the fuel filter inlet hose and hose clamp to the filter.
-
Lower the vehicle. Install the wire harness and grommet through the vehicle floor pan.
