Filter is very likely but I would check the fluid level first.

Have the engine steam cleaned (watch any electronics) Run the engine & start looking from the top, down. It may be a bad valve cover leak from the rear of the cover or ck the front & rear seals. (cracked head, block etc. It could be many places

It will be in the under hood fuse and relay center, check the owner's manual for exact position in box or check the lid for a diagram.

Well it could be the drive gear in the trans or the speedo in the dash.

It's probably the gauge it self that is bad , they do go bad . Does the vehicle run an shift good ? The vehicle speed sensor is an input to the transmission control module (computer) an the TCM is on the CCD data bus , so are other modules . Like the ECM - engine computer an what ever other modules your vehicle has . The TCM shares speed info with ECM , instrument cluster etc... So if the transmission shifts good an engine runs ok the VSS is good .

A switch somewhere is damaged. there's one on the door jam (where hinges are) but it can also be a short somewhere. What I did is pull the bulbs out and bought one of those keychain flashlights and leave it on my seat as I only need a little light to see the keyhole. Most of the time I don't need any light as the street lights or the moon provide enough of it.

what engine ?? they are almost all near the water jacket housing, (thermostat housing)

the valve springs are pushing against the cam lobes and turning the cam, you have to hold them with special tools or wrenches, usually the will stay in time if you hold them lined up with the marks and release gently on wrench, don't breath or they will jump

Have the alternator checked. You might have a bad voltage regulator (which is often housed in the alternator).
