Metal flecks in coolant.. Can it only come from sealant used for a cracked head?
Are the flecks/contaminant rusty or silver?
I would remove thermostat, flush cooling system serval time till clean, pressure test system and run on water to see if it reappears.
If it does not reappear, test thermostat, refit, and top up with coolant.
If it does need more info on contaminant, could be just a build up of gunk, could be failed components, gaskets ext
2004 pt cruiser gas guage showing incorrect reading
There is a trick to reset all of the gauges in your PT Cruiser. There are three simple steps to reset them.
Step 1. Hold down the "Trip" button
Step 2. While holding onto the Trip button, turn the key and start the car. (This should make all the gauges and numbers reset and run a test)
Step 3. Release the trip button and the fuel gauge should work properly.
If not, there might be a problem with your fuel pump.

Misfiring cylinder 3 & 4
Sounds like a bad turbo to me. When you "kick it in", the engine falters and you get black smoke for a while. What is probably happening is that the turbo is leaking oil into the intake air stream, putting it into the cylinders with the fuel/air mix and causing one of two issues. Either the oil is inhibiting the combustion process, causing the falter and the resulting poor ignition, plus the oil, is giving black smoke, OR, the oil in the cylinders is fouling the plug momentarily, resulting in the fuel/oil being passed into the exhaust stream, burned in the catalytic converter and exits as black smoke. If it runs OK except when under turbo load, have that thing checked out ASAP. And, as far as the light staying on, most faults will set permanently after they occur three or more times within a certain period of time. This is ti ensure that intermittent faults won't cause false setting of the light.
Causes for engine overheating in 2.4L turbo?
in order of importance:
(1) electric cooling fans not coming on when needed
(2) low or no coolant in system (see #1 an #5 for cause of this)
(3) defective thermostat in engine block
(4) part ways blocked off radiator inside ( dirty !!)
(5) defective cyl head gaskets ( this can occur more on a turbo model)
