Hello Bill Gant, Sorry no one responded to you question... Perhaps the cyber-lords where just keeping you safe (I tend to be a wee bit chatty)... First thing I did was look it up by another name "the expansion valve" (repair kit) on rockauto (see below)... Coming away a bit perplexed (looks like a straight pipe there)... pictures do help (also attached below)... but so does the description: It is the midway TRANSITION POINT from HIGH PRESSURE (hot) to LOW PRESSURE (cool: return to the compressor). Functionally it is located directly before the "firewall... just ahead of the "cooling core" (evaporator) inside the heat-A/C unit is your dash-panel. The Orifice does NOT always show externally... if you cannot find it from this information... comment me back ... Try this Bring up Google Search engine on your computer and enter "1994 Ford Topaz diagrams" and push the return button.

If you are always adding fluid, that means you have a leak somewhere. Put a piece of clean cardboard under suspect areas under car overnight to check for obvious leaks. The one hard leak to find is when the trans cooler in the radiator is leaking internally. Open your radiator cap (only when cool) and see if it looks oily inside. If so, you need to replace your radiator, and I suggest you flush your cooling system at the same time.

Low fluid doesn't mean the trans is shot. if it's full of fluid and won't move then it most likely is shot. if the fluid keeps getting low then you got a leak some where, most likely leaks while your driving like an axle seal. could also be in the cooler lines or front seal. get up under it and look for areas that are wet. it will lead you back to the leak.

You're starting it, letting it warm up and checking it in park on level surface correct?

Any workshop manual will have this diagram available as all starter motors are wired the same way

Yes there is and it will be in ya stearing colum. Chance are it is a wire that has chafed though. Pull it apart and inspect all your wires it could only be a small hole in one wire causing the problem.

Check for engine vacuum leaks.

Someone would need to check for voltage at the blower motor and the resistor assuming the fuse is good.

Remove the trim around the inside of the door, the motor is right there in plain sight

Automatic? Some check light there? Could be some problem with the torque converter (aut.) or valve solenoid stucked.

You could have varnish on the throttle valve in the transmission, causing it to stick open.

There must be a connection between the battery terminal and the starter terminal, on the starter.
The soleniod contacts are probably welded together or the return spring is weak. Fit a new solinoid.

if you follow the positive (+) battery lead from the battery it goes onto the starter motor........chers.

It could be a lot of things. What maintenance has it had? Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor, coil, mass air sensor, clogged PCV valve, vacuum leak, primary oxygen sensor, skipped timing, clogged air filter, bad tank of gas, bad battery ground - any of these could cause that. Has the car had any of this done lately? Has it had any other work done lately? Sometimes while doing one maintenance procedure, something can get bumped or disconnected and cause other issues.
