Recalls never expire. The only recall that had anything to do with the cooling system was 00S44 for the cooling fan bearing seizing which you stated that you had cooling fan is working so it does not sound like your problem. You can check your vehicle for recalls at this site
http://www.genuineservice.com/genuineservice/en/default?page=genuineService. Just look down the left side task bar and pick recalls and insert your VIN number.
What sounds like it might be your problem may be the water pump itself. These had plastic impeller blades on the pump and they have probably seperated from the pump shaft.
White smoke from exhaust what can it be
white smoke indicates air fuel ratio is out or there is water getting into the combustion chamber . Have a compression test done to check for head gasket and cracks. Have a coolant system pressure test done . White smoke from exhaust is not to confused with steam that is visible on the warming up process
Mercury mystique throws out a huge amount of smoke
Smoke from an idling engine that shows when the engine is reved up indicates worn valve stem seals and worn valve guides. If the engine has some age on it then the stem seals are probably hard and cracked allowing the oil to be drawn into the combustion chamber past the valve stem. A skilled mechanic with the right equipment can replace the seals without removing the head so ask around for some one who does it on a regular basis.
My Mercury outboard 135 hp
my main suspect here in a case like this is the reed valve ,its sits behind the carb and all 2 stroke engines have one ,if you remove this and its clean and sealing up ok then check the stator under the flywheel ,In the end i gave up with the 2 stroke engine and bought a 4 stroke engine and the amount of fuel i have saved ?? Under the flywheel on the top of the engine is a advance /****** mechanism and this could be sticking or siezed up as well
Transmission slips som e
could be just low on fluid if its a automatic just change the fluid and filter and see if that helps. If the filter gets dirty it'll make the transmission slip. There also maybe a screen in the transmission that also works as a filter that could be dirty. Its found right under the transmission pan.

Its possible you had some air pockets in the cooling system from replacing the thermostat. I would check the radiator cold from time to time to make sure it is full.

95 mercury mystique gas gauge is broken
Not really. The float in the tank is probably stuck or the resistor is faulty. The sending unit has a float much like a toilet and as the float moves up the resistance to ground for the gauge on the dash is less.Chances are the tank would have to be removed and the sending unit replaced. If the gauge never moved off of E it could be a wiring problem or the gauge on the dash too.
