it is the alternator.
and also check the 175amp ford fuse stuck to the firewall passenger side on the wire connected to the alternator and the starter. same engine as the 99 cougar.
There is water in the
Since this is the expansion tank for your radiator - test your rad coolant to be sure it is in fact a coolant mixture appropriate for your climate and not just water. If your reservoir is not cracked - pour an equal amount of 100% coolant as there is water in the reservoir. (not the premix stuff) when you run your vehicle the heat from the engine will melt the h2o and mix with the coolant to form a 50% mixturer. Be sure the coolant you add is the same coolant used in the radiator.
Battery dead after a day
Are you getting the readings off the battery using a meter or of a dash display. -- check/clean battery connections, do load test on battery, and check/clean ground cable to chassis. Hope this helps
Engine Light came on and antifreeze overflow is
You have an overheated engine, This is not a problem to ignore because you can do damage to your engine.
After cooling down check the level of the coolant in the radiator. If its low, top it off.
You will need to determone what caused the overheating problem.
Things to check
1-coolant level
2-fan operation
3-belt condition
4-water pump
5-thermostat
Where do you put transmission
The fluid on a manual transmission is normally put in a fill hole on the transmission housing. CAUTION: be sure you locate the correct fluid for the vehicle most manual transmission vehicles do not take standard trans fluid.
Transmission slips som e
could be just low on fluid if its a automatic just change the fluid and filter and see if that helps. If the filter gets dirty it'll make the transmission slip. There also maybe a screen in the transmission that also works as a filter that could be dirty. Its found right under the transmission pan.
1995 Mercury Mystique will turn over but wont start
Sorry to break this to you. That sounds like a seized engine. When the engine started slowing down, the belt turned slower causing the brakes to almost not be there.Flooring the gas pedal will get you nowhere when an engine is about to seize up.Hot engine will cause steam and a red engine light easily. With a seized engine, pouring gas in the carbeurator won't result in a start either(although it fuel injected). The fuel pump in my Ford(basically same as a Mercury) is on top of the fuel tank which is under the back seat. That was not fun.Feel free to call a couple of shops but I am willing to bet they will say seized motor. If you want to keep the car,I would suggest a used engine from a salvage yard which has fairly low mileage or replecement fully.I have rebuilt engines and the results are usually disappointing.
Once again I am sorry to hear this.I wish you good luck.
I wass wondering how diffcult
FIRST,as long as you line up the pulleys BEFORE you take off the belt its relatively easy.if you feel, you are competant, get on and do it....with brakes they are so simple/logical,as long as you take your time and replace exactly as it comes apart, you will have no problems,WE are here to help if you get stuck.
I was driving this morning, no problems yesterday
Take it back to them. Most likely they spilled washer fluid or oil on a part that gets hot. Then when you drove the spill evaporated. They may have checked your antifreeze and improperly tightened the Radiator cap causing a leak.
Observe the temperature gauge for overheating. Some Lube places do more service than oil changes. You need to pressure test the Radiator for leaks. They could have simply overfilled the fluid.
1995 mystique only on high full throttle it bugs
computer cars r complicated-u cud hav a vacuum leak that doesnt show code--may need to clean some injectors-inner ones--how r the plug wires they wear internally as well as coil--maybe du another scan-ur ride is 16yrs
I have a 95 mercury mystique and it starts but but
THE ENGINES THROTTLE BODY HAS A TPS WICH IS CALLED A THROTTLE POSITIONING SENSOR
It has a built in reostat inside of it which can get a flat spot anywhere in its circuit explaining why your car hesitates or sounds like it is ready to stall out
'
I would replace it and have the voltage set at 1.5 volts when set at the idle position
Then it should run fine again
Auto Transmission Slipping
NEVER I REPEAT NEVER USE ADDITIVES they damage before they fix. more than likely it is a transmision computer issue. or linkage. if its the trans again some thing is causing it.
