How do you start it initially? Jump start? If you jump start it then it runs you probably need a new battery. You can go to a parts store to get your engine light checked.

Have the ****** flushed and new fluid installed, if that doesn't do it you will need to remove it and rebuild it.

The thermostat is stuck closed replace it and the problem is fixed. I would recommend replacing the hose as it has been weakened from the swelling and overheating.

Have you checked coil/coils. Some Suzuki have two coils. When it is on way out it will start itermittenly until finally it won't start at all. Can go on for sometime doing this. I believe coil relays power to starter. Coil
fault often attributed to starter in correctly. Hope this helps.

Will the leaver not move? Try reversing a little, the forward. This might let it slip in place. Sometimes you get transmission wind up, causing the 4wd drive not to enguage.
If it won't come back out try the forward and reverse thing again.
I don't understand the light being on and your still not getting 4WD!
