1999 Suzuki Esteem - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Most likely issue is the driver's door latch. You will have to remove the door panel to confirm. After removing the door panel, remove the J12 connector from the latch and use an ohmmeter to see if the unlock switch inside the latch is closing when the latch is unlocked. The switch is between the pins on the J12 connector, which has the brown and black wires. See diagram at link below. http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/DownloadPdf?id=90399

You got scammed! If a bolt broke off, THEY broke it off, not you! Report the dealer to the bike manufacturer, and ask for compensation, and threaten to take the matter to the National Highway Safety Commission ... and DO THAT if they don't fix the problem!

G16 engines, know them like back of hand sold 3.
restored 2, total overhauled 1 engine my hands.
1996+ are all G16b (the B means 16valve heads)
all are MPI injected x4.
all are MAF based EFI. all are. and can fail for this.

to (too) hot, what does that mean? we use a thermal gun to see too hot the 17year old dash gauge is a toy. and OLD.
or means when engine reaches normal 180F temperatures, it ......
cuts out
elaborate that, please.
parked , cold engine, hot engine, (not overheated)
driving , at all speeds all gears ,hills and flat.
cuts out means nothing much.
cuts out can be a minor hesitations to a full on bog,
does car have wide open throttle power,?
cuts out can mean total 12vdc power failure, with all lamps in car showing that or groups, going dead or dim.
if yes, the EFI will lose DC power too. and cut out.

is the CEL lamp glowing running,?
Check engine lamp. in cluster.
its not a panacea that light but can glow.
the panacea if possible is scanning the PCM using any OBD2 scan tool made. see if there are DTC errors.
many do not set the CEL glowing, CEL is mostly for SMOG tests
in USA> (we invented it here)

minor hesitations,
  1. old or bad fuel
  2. MAF dirty clean it with maf cleaner (CRC) 6" afar. no close.
  3. o2 dead, unplug it see if symtoms go away. front 02.
  4. air leaks anywhere on the main air induction pipe MAF to TB will cause lean hesitations, (makes MAF lie)
  5. low fuel pressure. (a tool finds this, ask)
  6. dead maf, or ECU in limphome mode, scan it.

depending on how the radiator was drained , ( bottom hose off or tank tap) it is possible that the wire to the crank position sensor was disturbed
run the fault codes to check for other possible wiring problems or sensor failure

haz ok. , both left and right bLINK FAIL?
that means the lamps are ok and wires to them,
on most cars, the blinkers have their own fuse.
like all electric fails, check fuses first.
why buy parts guessing, $150 combo switch for a 10cent fuse?
first diagnose it , then buy parts. and save money.
heck try a repair shop, they will diagnose it cheap.
ill now look up your cars blink wiring.

the dome fuse runs the interior lamps.

horn, runs hazards. (tricky no.)>?
there is a Small fuse. Name small, (yes odd )
the back fuse must be good too, as it feeds the turn/haz relay
yes there is a relay here.
horn, small, back FUSES, and FLASH relay must be good.
seem the flasher is bad.
see here at ?

sorry old post but others will land here and ask this simple questions...its a top question.
why not rent a scan too.
the 1.6 liter is the suzuki G16 engine.
i have vast data on it, and full shop manuals and parts lists.
and lots more.
the G16 has a distributor.
the J18 has NON, called DIS, (distributor-less ignition systems)
the J18 has cops. coil over plugs. times 4.
if it dont start. why not rent a scan tool..
want to work blind with EFI>? why to that and go broke.
The 1999 (1996 and up ) usa cars, all run OBD2 PCMs
and all will scan with any OBD2 scanner made here.
even the $10 on fleabay work, need photos of it working have them. lots.
here is my bud, scanning everywhich way but sunday.

on an real G16.
looks same on all G16 in all suzuki cars made, with OBD2.
all USA cars do this... ALL.
1996 to NOW.

alldata.com covers this.
1.6L or 1.8L>>>>>???

on all cars, its.

  1. disconnect battery neg lug or BOOM, eat acid.
  2. remove the belt to alt.
  3. remove all wires and plugs on alt.
  4. remove alt. by removing its attachment bolts.
try youtube and see 10000 of folks removing ALTS.
watch, them that see if its YOUR BAG.

you want to buy an ESteem, why?
Suzuki is dead. (USA and Canada )
i why buy a near Yugo status car?
this rare car , most the parts on car are not sold by the aftermarked (underdog)
and suzuki shut down here, no new car sales.
and there parts supply is collapsing at a fast rate, due to no car dealers and just 2 online sales points. (weak, and no parts drawings...there, poor support !!!)
they also list most parts now as discontinued.
so why own this car.?

why not (if underdog cars are cool?)
buy a GEO Prizm , at least all the parts are Toyota Corolla and sold 100% all parts.

Esteems are no good. due to above facts.
unless its just a toy and down time is of no matter... "truth"

double posted. by OP
the 1.8L , is on the left rear of cam, it a twin cam engine, DOHC.
face the engines, front pulley, point to right rear of cam shaft. bingo. CMP

on the 1999, In usa, any scan tool will till you its bad. for sure.
P03xx codes. 340 are cmp failure.
can be seen driving, or parked, engine running, or even CRANKING.
if the scan tool shows no, errors with it, it's not bad.
the PCM will show even 1 missing pulse in 10. (drop outs)
fact. (covered in the FSM book)

here is the parts page.
page 21 shows the mount.

1999 Suzuki... | Answered on May 02, 2015 | 134 views

You must have just taken the alternator off without releasing the tension from the belt? The tensioner is built onto either the alternator itself or the power steering pump. There should be one or more bolts that need to be loosened and then you will have a bolt that loosens the tensioner bolt attached to either the alternator or power steering pump. Hope this helps, let me know if you need further assistance.

spark plugs are always in the engine block because they are used to ignite the air/fuel mixture in the cylinders. to find them, follow the spark plug wires. one end will go to the distributor, the other end will go to the spark plugs. on top of the engine in your car, you'll see a row of four rectangular, black, plastic caps that cover your spark plugs.
