have you changed the plugs and leads, if you don't know the last time it was started there is a few things you need to take into account, engine oil and spark plugs fuel filter even the fuel in the tank empty and replace, coil and the points ( if upgraded there is no coil and points as been converted) you would also need to clean out the carburetor as old fuel drying can block or limit fuel entering the engine. change air filter. even standing an engine for a year or 2 these parts can degrade as they have not been used. also change the water and flush the system and refill with coolant/antifreeze.

The ignition key turns, but

When you turn on the key to the start position do you hear clicking? If I were you I would try a jump start or with the boost setting on your battery charger. If it starts, then you know the switch is good and that the problem is in your charging circuit - battery or alternator.

If again nothing happens then it could be your ignition switch. The column plastic cover should be two pience with screws holding them together.

I'm going to assume you have a 318? Also going to assume that the wires and plugs are in good shape? When it's not starting, do you have spark? If not, do you see spark for any part of the time when you crank it? Have you made sure that the carb is OK and not flooding the engine?
What I just said is'nt a "fix...yet...I need to know this stuff first.

I have a 1985 plymouth

Likely cause is a bad ground. Check connections at the bulb. Grab wires and wiggle them around with lights on looking for them to come on or off.

I got a bad timing

get a half inch breaker bar and a impact socket place the socket on the bolt put the breaker bar against the frame and make sure there is nothing between it and the breaker bar, If the battery is disconnected reconnect it them turn your key on and just bump the starter a couple of times and you should be fine. Had to do it on many cars before I was able to afford air tools. make sure the breaker bar is in the right position for engine turn over the crank should turn clock wise rotation so set the bar up so that when you bump the starter it will loosen the bolt and not tighten, if you do it backwards you will bust the bolt or the crank and you don't want to do that. hope this helps.

85 fury with a center brake light? Did someone add this light and wire it to the right tail light. You need to wire it to the brake switch.

Yes its a 318 and the wires are less than 2months

You are posting your reply in the wrong place but I accidentally found it. Check the ceramic resistor block (usually on the firewall, drivers side or on the fender, same side) and make sure it has continuity If that fails, ignition will not work. Also check that you have voltage to the coil.

How to rebuild a 1987 plymouth gran fury 2 barrel carburetor

First, you will need to get a rebuild kit for it. This contains gaskets and other bits that wear and need replacing on occasion. There will be a number on a tag or the carb body that the parts store will need to get the right kit. There's no point in trying to reuse the old gaskets, if you are going to try that, then don't waste your time rebuilding. The kit will contain a sheet of paper whjich will give you an exploded diagram of all the parts in your carburator and where they belong. there will also be information on various settings for idle, choke, etc. Don't lose these sheets. When you start to disassemble the carb, keep the old gaskets to compare with new ones. When you remove the idle screws, turn them in until they stop. Be gentle when you do this and count the number of turns. Write that number down, so when you put it back together you know where the idle setting is supposed to be. There will be extra gaskets in the kit and they will all be different. You must replace with exactly the same as what you took off. Also pay very close attention the how the choke linkage comes apart. It will go together more than 1 way so you can get it wrong. This will make the car act up or maybe not even start. Soak the carb in a good quality cleaner and make sure everything is clean and all the lines are open before you start to reassemble it.Use your diagrams to make sure you put everthing back where it belongs, replacing with new parts when possible. Be very careful with the float measurement, it must be exact, close won't work. This is going to take you several hours, so don't be in a rush.

Check out this site: https://www.allpar.com/forums/topic/40994-ballast-resistor/Seems to be some debate as to whether or not your car even has a ballast resistor, and if it does, where it may be located. I've always seen ballast resistors mounted on the firewall away from the engine's heat...but those were on older models (50's, 60's 70's). Good luck.

Ignition coil wiring diagram 1987 plymouth gran fury

I just looked on my 86 gran fury--I have a blue and a black wire. They both run up into a combination of other wires(including the voltage regulator mounted on the firewall, the wires from the windshield washer fluid tanks, etc). This larger set of wires run along the firewall across to the driver's side. Maybe start unwrapping the wire bundles closest to the wire in question,, and you will find the broken wire end inside. If you meant the coil wire(in the center of the top of the ignition coil;it has a rubber boot on it), it goes to the center of the distributor, which is behind the air cleaner along the firewall. both wires need to be intact for the car to start.
