Jeep wrangler 2.5 standerd turns
Is it an automatic transmission?
Have you try to start the Wrangler in Neutral.
On automatic transmission there is a neural safety switch.
When it's not send the correct gate position signal (P R N D... ) to the ECU not energize import relay like ASD.
Check for loose linkage to the transmission. + lube linkage with white Lithium grease spray.
Check for loose wiring to the neutral safety switch.

Which fuse for my jeep
Hi, the 1997 Wrangler has two fuses to check. Both in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) under the hood. Fuse 3 supplies the accessory circuits through the ignition key and energizes the coil of the accessory relay. If your radio works that fuse is OK. The other fuse, fuse 5 supplies the power to the accessory socket when the relay is energized. The relay is behind the glove box and mounted to a stack of multi-wire connectors.
Replace fuse 3

Both headlights out on 1997
There is a fuse box under the hood on the passenger side remove the cover and the #10 fuse is for the headlamps. Look on under side of cover for fuse #s.

Looking to buy a 1996-2000
compression tests should not cost alot (less than $50), and a compression guage is only $20-if you can change spark plugs, you can do a compression test yourself. As to the question about the engines, on the TJ (96 to 2000) your choices are the 4.0 six cylinder and the 2.5 4 cylinder. The four is somewhat better on gas, but is very much underpowered, and you will regret (as most 2.5 owners do) getting one, they are slow and labor carrying around the tj body. The 4.0 is fairly bulletproof, just check carefully the oil (is it very dirty?) and the inside of the valve cover-take the cap off and see if there is residue of gummy oil, or sludge-avoid these cars. If the oil has been changed on a regular basis, and it does not smoke, runs smoothly and the vehicle is clean (body, interior and under the hood) a TJ with a 4.0 can easily go 250,000 miles or more with routine maintenance. I have a 98 with 312,000, it is a stick shift and still has the original engine, trans and clutch-while it has never been a daily driver, I have driven it all over the United States, and would drive it anywhere, these are very easy to get parts for, are easy to work on and are designed for very severe duty.

I have a 97 wrangler
Something odd about what you posted. An engine that is running lean shouldn't be using a lot of fuel. Lean is when there isn't enough fuel going into the engine. Two other sensors that regulate fuel flow are the map sensor and throttle position sensor. Temp sensor generally would cause a rich condition but I'd test that too. Be sure to check for vacuum leaks at the manifold and lines as well as fittings... A vacuum leak will give the O2 sensor a lean reading...seeing that, the computer will try to compensate by adding fuel. Clearing codes can change the way it's running but as soon as the computer runs through it's internal diagnostics it will turn the light back on if there is a problem.

Having a wide range mpg
Doubtful if you will ever get exactly the same mpg as there is always some variation.
Things that can affect it are weather conditions (air density, humidity, temp and even wind). People don't realize that the fuel you buy, even if its from the same exact pump is not always exactly the same. Fuel quality varies with each new delivery as often manufacturers share product right at the terminal where the truck loads. (it works both ways....I once ran a shop with gas out front and at least once a month we were selling "super" from the "regular" pumps because the terminal was short on regular.) This is especially true with smaller companies that don't have their own refineries. You may also be off when filling up by a gallon or so just by changing the direction where you park at the pump as the angle of the tank will change.
You can add injector cleaner to make sure that there are no changes in the injector spray patterns. I use 3oz of acetone per 10 gallons of fuel and it works just fine. Most over the counter cleaners work well too. Also, do the calculations yourself. If you are relying on the ones installed in vehicles, they often aren't very accurate.

I dont know where to
Usually the top big hose off radiator leads to a housing where it is connected. When you pull that hose off motor you should be able to see the thermostat inside after coolant comes out.

The emergency brake on my 1997 jeep wrangler
You can order the part and save some labor but not much. It only takes 30 minutes to take off the cable from underneath the chassis. You can get step by step instructions from autozone.com by registering fro free and then register your jeep...all for free. Thanks for using FixYa. By the way I dad the same problem on my 4x4 Ranger.

Put a manual gauge on my 1997 to read oil
You can try a new oil pump, but in my 30 plus years 99 out of 100 your bearings are gone! you would have to pull the oil pan to do oil pump so i would pull 2 or3 main crank caps and check bearings if badly scrached or copper spots showing through aliumun coating there is your low oil press. probiem.you will need a new motor sorry. No break lights, high beams,
Do they work intermittently? Do your low beams go out sometimes when you put on turn signal? Do hazards work sometimes and if you play with switch they work off and on? I just had a problem with headlights would go off if I put on turn signal and if I jiggled the turn lever they would come back on and had trouble with all light working intermittently, brakes, turn and hazard. It was a Turn signal switch problem. The contacts in the switch were bad, all corroded and green when I took it apart. I know you wouldn't think this would affect brake lights but hey all run through this switch because of hazards and high beams. I got a new switch from dealer and all is working great now. Here's a link a link I used for switch replacement instructions.

If it isn't a fuse or wiring issue I would look into the switch.

I have changed the resistor
Sounds like its a bad blower motor connector,Find blower motor connector and perform a wiggle test while turning fan switch up and down. Also look at connector for melted wires or the connector itself.Hope this helps!!
