My wife has a 1998 Subaru Forrester. Today we
Under dash by left knee is a 4" x4" box with a small wire on it. On the end of the wire is a small button. Push the button to reset. That sure cure your flashing marker lights. Good luck and have a great day.
''Hold At'' Subaru forester problem
I don't think you have a problem at all. when you turn the key on, the hold at light appears, this lets you know the system is engaged and ready to go,and will not turn back on unless the system is engaged during slippery conditions. Try disengaging the button, then turn the ignition on, I'll bet the light doesn't appear! Thats because its not supposed to when the system is disengaged. Dale
1998 Subaru Forester Overheating, top of guage.
You 're in the right area. Just try to see where the leak is coming from. If the fan has quit, then it very well could be the problem. If stem is coming out it may have a split or hole in the radiator. But again it can be a simple overflow tank CAP. If these have no psi rating left, the the hot water will go somewhere and the the CAP is the weakest point. This will cause it to be hot and stem to come out.
How do you reset the computer on a 1998 subaru
I am thinking you mean the alarm system. If so, Just locate the box under dash by where your left knee sits. It is about 4" x4" x 1". It has a wire lead that has a small button on it. Just push and hold the button for about 15 secounds and it will reset itself. That should stop the marker lights from flashing. Good luck and hope this helps. Have a great day.
Where are the rear brake lines located on 1998
If you take off the rear wheels, you should see the rubber lines (if stock) with metal ends connected to the brakes and running up the wheel well. They are not too difficult to replace if need be.
1998 Forester cargo light won't go off
Yes these are the switches. It sounds like they have gone bad or the wires to them have gone bad. Your best bet is to try and find the other side of the switches on the interior of the car and see if anything looks bad. I dont believe there is a fuse but it is worth looking to make sure.
How do i change the spark plugs on a 99 subaru forester?
Subaru Forester Spark plug removal:
First, you must remove the air cleaner housing
Move the tube from the air cleaner and the intake on top of the engine by loosening the hose clamps at each end. It is still attached to a hose underneath but can be put out of the way
Remove the top of the air cleaner and the filter.
Remove the two 12mm bolts at each side of the bottom.
The side of the bottom is rubber gasketed to the inside fender - just rotate slightly each way to loosen and pull off and put off to the side - there is still a wire attached.
Now pull off the spark plug caps on the side of the engine. This is a boxer engine which means the plugs are in a horizontal position on the sides. It is good to have a pair of spark plug pliers to do this as they are really difficult to remove. (spark plug pliers form a circle on the end when closed and are nice to grasp the caps with).
Now you will need a 3/8 drive socket wrench, a 2" extension and a 5/8 deep socket
Connect the extension and socket and feed it into the spark plug hole and over the spark plug. It is really deep inside. Now attach the wrench and remove the spark plug making sure you keep the tools level so as not to torque the plug side ways. Once the plug is real loose, unattach the wrench and hand loosen the plug with the extension because the wrench won't fit to remove the extension and socket attached. Remove the extension and socket and then spark plug. Put in the new plug reversing the steps.

My 1998 Forester had the tailgate bashed in and
If it was the lock actuator then it would have been damaged in the accident and likely would have shorted out if it also affected the lights. shorting out would cause the fuse to blow.
To me this means that the problem isnt a short but an open. Like the wire got pulled hard enough that it seperated inside. personally if I had it here it would be a matter of tracing those wires back. The accident should provide the clue.
If it was a bad ground I would think the lights would work at least partially. Ideally you want the body guys to find this because they can remove the body panels with their tools pretty easy thus making it easy to access the wiring. Tracing wiring is a pain at the best of times, which is why they dont want to do it.
Every place where wires cross potentially sharp metal edges is a place to inspect.
My air conditioner works OK
Your A/C system needs to have a gauge applied to the system and check the pressure (Lbs of freon). The system is most likely low, and when the pressure is too low at certain driving intervals, the low pressure switch activates and cuts off power to the compressor. When the pressure eventually rises, it will allow the compressor to activate and pressureize the system, allowing the freon to push thru the system which will then cool the interior and blow cold air into the cabin area.
98 forester awd rear wheels not engaging
Just a thought, Check under bonnett on passenger side is a fuse that when installed dis-engages the rear drive. Remove the fuse to engage the rear drive. Sometimes people see the open fuse holder and fill the slot thinking it is missing. Truth is it is only for short towing. Good luck and have a great day.
