The electronics could be the issue but the cable is also a possibility.

use voltmeter to find out if the NEW alternator is good. or bring it to auto parts store that does free alternator & battery check. make sure all battery terminals & grounding connections are shiny cleaned.

You will need to replace the key cylinder and likely the ignition switch. Have done at dealer or reputable shop.

Try replacing the starter solinoid too, or if that does not work you may have a wiring issue.

Under the dash on drivers side.

Just remove all screws on the panel and it should come off. Make sure to pop covers to reveal hidden ones.

check condition and tension of the drive belt as it may be slipping under load

The first thing you need to do is run a fault code test on the electronics, to do that go here.

Do you keep your headlights on? If you do, turn the knob to the left and it should brighten up. If that does not work, you may have a burnt out dash or some faulty wiring. As for the lighter, check to see it works with a phone charger. If not likely bad wiring.

Possibly the engine coolant sensor has malfunctioned and that would cause the engine to shut off or not start once it's up to temperature. Check the sensor, and the wire. If you can, plug in the computer to check the engine codes. Hope this helps.

the ignition switch is located under the dash on the steering column and is simple....
disconnect connector, remove to screws and replace switch

if however, you mean the ignition tumbler, the place where you put the key, then it a lot tougher

Yes it can be rebuilt but it usually would cost around $3,500 to do it. Your best bet is find one in a wrecked car, in a junk yard. Or try on the internet like ebay.

Premium. Gas is rated by octane lnumbers and those numbers have stayed the same over the years. Mid gas would not have a high enough octane rating for your engine.

sounds like a wire has shorted out in the column causing the smoke.
You need to check it asap as it could burn your car out

you have a distrubidor problem

you could have a blown head gasket in between two cylinders.or you need to change your fuel pressure regulator,you might need a new fuel filter..

If the Problem is That you Can't Unlock the Door With Door Unlock Switch, Or The Key Outside of Door, nor can you Unlock Door with Manual Unlock Button [ Electrical Lock Doors Only ] Then More than Likley The lock / Unlock Motor that electricaly Locks and unlocks the Door has become Defective and is Jamming the ability to Unlock the Door by any method. You will have to find some way to get to the Mechinisim to move the door lock to the Unlock Position before you can open the Door. This will be very hard with the Door Closed but you may be able to remove the cover over the inside door handle and with some moveing of the link to the lock / unlock mechensim to get the door Unlocked. If not you may have to take it to your dealer or a body shop to see if they can get the Door unlocked. Try not to force unlock with a key as this will damage the Keylock Mechinism.
Then you will have to replace the Door lock / unlock Motor or simply disconnect the linkage to the door lock / unlock Motor and use a key to lock / unlock the Door untill you can replace the motor.
This is a common problem that shows up in these older cars. In my case both of the door lock motors on my 1987 Lebaron went out about the same time but the Pasenger went out first.
Usually the first indication that this problem is about to occure is you find that the Door lock becomes harder to lock and unlock with the key or with the manual door lock button.
