1992 Volvo 740 Questions & Answers
1992 volvo 740t. no spark
1) Faulty coil, connections to coil, or other secondary wire issues, cap/rotor defective2) Faulty switching node (this is the Bosch "ignition amplifier module" on the driver's fenderwell, front.3) Faulty crank angle sensor or connector4) Rare, faulty ignition computerNotes on the coil: Positive is a fused feed. Verify you have 12 VDC at this point with the coil disconnected and reference this to ground with KOEO (KP II). The 'ground' circuit is switched by the aforementioned ignition amplifier on the driver's fenderwell which is switched by the ignition module.Crank angle sensor must be functioning for ignition system to work. If this is faulty, the entire system shuts down. This is located at the top of the bellhousing, rear of engine. Take care upon removal or installation, the bracket is fragile.
New alternator and battery drive 10 miles wont
CAUTION: NEVER DISCONNECT THE BATTERY TERMINALS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. This will instantly destroy the 6-way rectifier/voltage regulator.Check that the Generator Failure light comes on and stays on with key on and engine off. N.G., verify your connections on the back of the generator. This circuit must function or the generator will never charge the battery. If this indicator circuit is miswired (the small spade connector is disconnected, plugged into the wrong connection or otherwise nerfed) the voltage regulator open-circuits the field (rotor) windings and in turn, the generator will never charge and freewheel. Check the circuit from the connector on the back of the generator all the way to the dash, verifying the light bulb in the dash is good. My trick is to wire in a small 3 watt bulb (or a continuity light) in series with the circuit under the hood. Turn the key on to KP II and verify it lights up. Others: Check ground from generator to engine. This is usually a large blue cable that ties off onto a bracket near the air valve. Check ground from engine to body. Check ground from battery to body to engine. Must read less than 1 ohm on your megger.
My car wont start
It doesn't matter if the exhaust is leaking if the car won't start. The smell... does it smell like gasoline? If you have a new alternator and battery, then I would focus on the fuel system. Fuel pump, fuel injector, leaking fuel line, bad spark plugs, bad distributor cap, bad spark wires, oxygen sensor, etc.
92 volvo 740 wagon service light will not turn off after changing oil
1 Turn key to position 12 Press odometer button and while doing so turn the key to position 23 Hold odometer button until hazard triangle in center of dash flashes, when this occurs, release the button.4 Start the car and the light should be off.Radio station presets will be lost after this reset so write down the ones you like before beginning procedure.
Timing problems
Ok, the problem you're having is not very common however to solve this you need to replace the flywheel with the one that come with your new engine because the gears on both flywheel are different and the speed sensor will have difficulty reading the gears. Therefore the car will either misfire or not start. Did you relpace the engine with a 940 volvo 93 and up?
Heated seat not working
The most common cause of this is that the electric heating grid in the seat is defective. To repair this the seat must have the cover removed and a new grid installed, you will likely need to replace the control switch at the same time, also look under the seat and make sure no wiring is damaged on the seat support springs and shorted to ground. The de-trimming (removal of seat coverings) is best left to automotive trim shop as removing and installing a seat cover is a real pain if you don't have the correct tools and skills to remove the retaining clips that hold the cover to the frame, they are called "hog rings".
1992 volvo 740 wagon.
I bought a Craftsman socket at OSH hardware. Very shallow 6-point socket with a universal joint built into it. I think it was 18mm but I don't have it handy at the moment so check the size. That socket with a couple of extensions worked like a charm.
.........Or you can drop the engine...........:-)
I have a 1992 740
most of the cars made for Europe are equipped with a( thermostat ) but don`t confuse it with air conditioner thermostat or thing is working like valve that stops water circulating in cold starts so the water will only circulate around the engine block not through the radiator and of coarse it helps heat up your car`s engine faster but the problem comes when that valve got old (by the way most of those valves working as a wax capsule when the water heats to some amount the wax molten so it opens the way for water to circulate through the radiator ) what happens is simply the wax looses some of its function and molten in higher temp . so it block the water again until it heats up to molt the wax
my advice :
get off that part and just don`t replace it if you found it pricey for you your car still working but will needs more time to warm up
i hope i was useful for u sir .
