1996 Volvo 850 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Hi my 1996 volvo 850
Yes, if the pcv valve is clogged or not properly connected to the air inlet, it can allow more blowby. However, if there a lot of miles on the engine, it might be time for new piston rings. Run a compression test on all cylinders.

Volvo 850 GLT won't start
any check engine lights/codes?, maybe that oil sprayed onto a connector somewhere and caused an issue, most the time the connectors are sealed but if one was broken or old and cracked it could let oil in between the contacts and cause an issue.
im not going to tell you its a cam or crank sensor with knowing for sure you are the one that needs to do that diagnostic, sorry..
anyways that's an intricate problem for sure and many things need to be checked before condemning one part or another.
i have seen coils fried from excessive cranking under no start conditions, they can be ohmed out to see if they are bad, disconnect them and remove them from the car and ohm them out with a digital meter and compare it to spec, ohm out the primary and secondary windings . the crank sensor most likely gets a signal from a reluctor wheel which is a piece of metal behind the crank with pieces cut out of it, clean it off and make sure the crank sensor face is clean too.
i would go in that order, dont condemn a part just because you think its bad. next with the main relay it can be checked or "jumped" but i dont want to suggest how because it could fry something electrical if done improperly, about the best advice i could give with the main relay is try to get it out smell it to see if you smell any burnt smells, and last open it up and check solder joints for cracks with a magnifying glass. if you see any cracks have someone thats good with a soldering iron fill the cracks and go from there.
good luck and any feedback will help in your journey to fix this thing.
dont get discouraged and once again if it has a code start there, even if its a history code or pending

HOW TO CHANGE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ON 1996 VOLVO
You will need a torx bit set, I am not sure of the size, but all the torx screws in the removal should be the same size. First, removed the panel under the glove box, then remove the glove box itself. The you will see the SRS passenger air bag plate, which is held on by 3 nuts, 13mm if I remember right. Then take that out. Now you will see the blower to the right when looking through the opening in the glove box. To the left you will a black flat plug which is plugged into the back of the rectangular shaped Resistor; it has an ear on it where there is a screw attaching the resistor to the ventilation duct. Simply unplug the resistor and remove screw. Installation is reverse of removal.

Cant open hood volvo 850
This is a common problem on these older Volvos. Try pulling up on the hood (after hitting the hood release in the car) and then push the latch in and then lift up again while pulling the latch out.

Volvo 850 tight engine - injectors + oil leak from top of cam cover
could be from
bad injectors
air in fuel
leakdown from problem pressure regulator valve
glo-plugs not operating
pump not producing the desired pressure
at this point I suspect that injectors/ pump need reconditioning as the unit is 21 years old probably never having either serviced
take it to an accredited diesel specialist shop for a proper diagnosis and quote

Whats the fuel pressure on a
The stock fuel pump pressure should be around 44 PSI and it should hold that pressure for quite a while. If it bleeds of quickly after the pump stops (key off) it indicates a bad check valve

1996 Volvo 850. No electrical power.
You may have a bad positive battery cable, with a digital volt meter you can test and see if you are getting 12 volts through the entire cable or at least to the cable junction block, in or by fuse relay center, then check cable from there to starter. you should also check the main, battery, power, fuses and relays, usually in the under hood relay center(fuse box)

Need the radio code for 1996 volvo 850.
Yes. Call a dealer. If they tell you that you have to come in person or want to charge you then call another. Even search for dealers over the internet. Most will give it to you over the phone, a smaller portion will want to either charge or make you come in person. Again, if that happens just call another dealer. If the radio is original, you can just give them the VIN. If you suspect it isn't or if the code they give you doesn't work then you need to pull the radio and gave them the serial number on it.

Where and what does the reset switch for the 1996Volvo 850 lookslike
Volvo 850 (1993-1995) Service Light Reset
Under the hood there are 2 diagnostic units (labeled A and B on the cover) next to the washer reservoir.
1. Turn on the ignition and open diagnostic unit A.
2. Locate the flylead (the test wire that is in the plastic holder).
3. Insert the flylead into socket 7.
4. Press the large round test button on the diagnostic unit 4 times, briefly but firmly.
5. When the LED flashes and then stays lit, it will accept the reset code.
6. The reset code for the service light is 1-5-1.
7. Press the large round test button firmly one time and then release it. The LED should be lit.
8. Press the button firmly 5 times and then release it. The LED should be lit.
9. Press the button firmly one more time and then release it. The LED will flash several times.
10. Turn off the ignition switch and replace the flylead in its holder and close the cover.
The Service Light has now been reset.

96 volvo 850 won't start and horn and turn signal chirp on and off
My wife ran into this problem one day when she came out of a store. Turns out the car alarm had been set off in her absence, and the alarm system had immobilized the car. The solution was to simply use the remote (rather than the key) to unlock the car. That cleared the immobilizer, and she started it up and drove off.

Can we disconnect turbo?
if you remove the turbo from that car, the car will not run very well because the computer is setup to run with a turbo device, it need the air flow to force the fuel where it need to go. after removing the turbo you are going to have fuel issue, stay running, be fore you buy it go to the owner ask if they would mind if you or them disconnect the belt from the turbo charger and restart the car, see how well it runs, try and drive it, if every thing works okay, than buy the car and leave the belt off the charger.

Horn stuck on
The steering wheel pad has plastic insulators that break. You used to have to replace the air bag assembly but I believe you can buy the insulators aftermarket on line now. Remove the air bag on the steering wheel and it will stop until you can repair it.

Code po133 o2 sensor 96 volvo 850 wagon
Front oxygen sensor code. Check the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator and make sure it is ok before you replace the sensor. Any vacuum leak can also cause the code.
