1993 Honda Civic 4 Door - Page 3 Questions & Answers
93 HONDA CIVIC SPITS AND SPUTTERS AT EXACTLY 3500 RPMS
I'd first check the fuel filter since its the cheapest to see if it has some rust or water in it. Then check timing see if maybe skipped timing since that is free. Then if that not the issue might be something ignition wise. Check distributor cap rotor for burnt marks. I've heard changing ignition module has fixed some problems or ignition box. Good luck. hopefully something simple.
Clutch for a 1993 civic ex
Could be your slave cylinder again, sometimes they don't last long, had one only last 10 months,go check your clutch master cylinder's fluid,if out, then slave cylinder is bad and should show signs of leakage.Another thing it could be if slave cylinder is good, then check the clutch master cylinder.
Need replacement for dashboard light dimmer. Dealer wants $115. What is the typical resistance so I can use a fixed resistor for full illumination?
well if you have the skills you can do it.measure the two extreme ends of the resistor only with the help of ohm meter if you do not find the value written which is usually mentioned like 10k ohms or 500 ohms like(ohms indicates like a horse shoe sign) you take out the variable resistor from the dimmer circuit and can get from electronic spares supplier. if not the you find the middle pin that rotates on the carbon take a small piece of wire soldier to this middle pin and connect to check on either ends with the resistor out. at one end it should be glowing full while at the other end will not glow.the resistor value should also be printed in the board if you need the value.hope this solves your problem.
Computer box problem
First I suggest scanned the comuter car in order to know what fault codes was causing "check engine" lamp turn on.
Civic hard to start, and when started shuts off
Try this first, and lets see what happens. Turn key to on, but not start, then off. do that about four or five times, then try to start. See if it starts, runs, then dies. Let me know. Have you had fuel pressure tested at all? If it doesn't start and run for a short while at least, take air intake hose off at throttle body intake, open throttle and spray a good shot of WD-40 into throttle body, then try to start. If it starts, you have a fuel delivery problem, maybe fuel pump or plugged filter would be first to check. Just because you hear the pump, doesn't necessarily mean it's getting proper pressure to run. Let me know what happens when you try this, and we'll go from there.

Was the noise there prior to the repairs you had done? If yes check your wheel bearings. If loose it is possible that the rotor may contact the caliper bracket making a grinding noise.

Passed 25 mph emission test
When was your last tune up? I mean new plugs wires and distributer cap. have you had the throttle body cleaned if not that will need to be done as well. The cleaning is not hard or expensive but it cleans all the build up off the throttle body. Catylytic converter may also be plugged. What I would do before your test is to run the car, get it good and hot and run it down the highway while holding the gas pedal to the floor several times to get the old carbon burnt out of the exhaust system, this old carbon in the system can cause high PPM readings for the hydrocarbons. Which simply means your engine is either not getting hot enough to keep the build up cleaned out, or your not burning fuel effeciantly causing a build up. If your getting no trouble codes or lights then the chances of an electrical system malfunction are minimal. There is also the possiblity that your engine needs some valve work done if the fuel is not getting burnt properly but if you get it good and hot and run all the old carbon out of the system you have a good chance at passing the test.
93 civic. Turn key all instrument light ,
Bad ground. Check the battery terminals. The amount of juice required to turn over engine is not getting through, where as the radio draws much less juice. Also, once all connections are cleaned, positive & ground at the battery and fram and the hot at the starter (best to do prior to snow fall anyway), you should be good to go. If not, turn on the interior dome light and try to start it. If it doesn't start, have your battery tested. Finally, if all is good, you should have the alternator tested as well. Most auto parts stores will provide that for free!
