Have 2006 Suzuki Forenza sedan.....64K miles on it......check engine light comes on/goes off....Autozone said it was a sensor problem but OK to drive. Dealership said it would be $400 to fix it, and I don't have that kind of money with Christmas here. I am worried it will mess up the engine though. Putting the car in reverse seems to be what triggers engine light coming on.
there is a transmission sensor on the transmission block, you can see it under the hood on the drivers side right under the waterhose and its called neutral safety switch.when the sensor fails the engene light comes on and the D on the transmission slips. if you want to fix it yourself is very easy if you have some mechanic skills. first disconect the waterhose if you donot want to have any problems later, there are two screws holding the sensor and one nut in the middle, unplug the harness, remove the sensor, get the sensor at the dealership ,plug in the new sensor to the harness and set it to neutral by watching the car gears on dash, set the trany pin to neutral, the teeth on the sensor will find the way in easely by doing this, reconect everything, reset the car computer by disconecting the battery ground cable and stepping on the break pedal a few times for at least one minute, reconect the battery cable and you are done! iam not a mechanic,i just have some mechanic skills and thats how i fixed my suzuki forenza 2007 myself.

If the timing belt breaks will the valves be damaged by the pistons?
Yes, If the timing belt brakes or skips several teeth. The 2.0L Suzuki engine pistons will and do hit the valves under that condition.
You should change that belt at 100-120k miles.
You can start by R&R the timing belt and setting everything back to specs,
Do a compretion test - that will be your awnser. Low or no compretion + bent valves.
The cheepest fix is a certified used low milage motor - put your new timing belt on the used motor for good measure.

a/c blows out hot air, and when i hooked up a can of a/c charger the gauge on the can was in the red, saying i need professional help any ideas as to what the problem is? im hoping its not the compressor, but not sure what else it could be. any help would be great, thanks
Jonathon,
I am amazed at some of the answers you have received so far. Let's get a few things straight, first, if your car is a 2006 model sold in the USA, you have an R134a system (mandated by federal law since 1996), so the answers that included mixing refrigerants are of no value. Second, if your system was working last year and you have not added any refrigerant since then, there is no way for your system to be overcharged. Assuming you are speaking of pressure in PSI and temp in degrees Fahrenheit, you are describing the static pressure in most R134a systems. By static I mean the pressure with the compressor not running. At 100 PSI of static pressure, your system is probably undercharged. You may have turned on your AC system inside, however you did not state that you can see the AC compressor clutch actually engaging and turning the compressor. Modern AC systems have low pressure cut out switches that will prevent the system from operating under low pressure conditions to protect the compressor. If you can observe the compressor clutch, watch to see if it is engaging and turning the compressor. If not, you have to make a small jumper (I use a small paper clip) to jump the low pressure switch plug (usually located on the compressor or accumulator) and spin the compressor. If that woks take another reading with your pressure gauge and I think you will find a reading somewhere below 30 PSI. You can then charge your system until you obtain a proper charge. Be sure to re-install the low pressure switch plug when finished.
If your AC compressor clutch is engaging and turning the compressor and your low side pressure is 100-150 PSI, then you do actually have a problem that will require professional assistance. Your compressor is either not functioning properly or there is some obstruction in your system that is preventing the refrigerant from circulating properly. Good luck.

TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR FOR 2006 SUZUKI FORENZA IS IT PART OF WHEEL TRAIN? AND IF i FIX IT MYSELF DO i NEED IT CALIBRATED BY COMPUTER?
You do not need to "calibrate the computer" when changing the trans. range sensor. If the dealer is telling you this, it is because they want more of your money. Just buy the sensor.

My airbag light just came on. Their was no accident and no reason. My 2006 suzuki forenza just hit 40,000 miles and my airbag light wont go off.
Airbag light came on for me shortly after buying it... apparently a bad censor but came on again shortly afterwards... Apparently the car is known to have a bad sensor somewhere for the airbags.
If the check engine light stays on it has something to do w/ your fuel line... be it anywhere from the cap all the way to the tip of your exhaust. When it FLASHES there's something MAJORLY wrong, like mine likes to misfire lately....
I believe there was a recall on the headlight wires and safteybelt sensor?
