Yes, RAVE mentions removing both the cylinder head gasket, and the sump gasket in order to change the chain. Also specifies removing the crankshaft pulley. Looks like a full on job!

I have a 2002 Land Rover Discovery and the car

if it's sluggish and bucking and there may or may not be a check engine light on, it's probably in need of spark plugs, wires, and / or ignition coil packs. also if it overheated, it may have blown the a head gasket or two. at least take it to a good land rover dealer and have a multi point inspection done. ive worked on a lot of discos where theyve needed a water pump, head gaskets, throttle heater and gasket, new coolant lines, front main seal, just for starters.... most just get a complete engine reseal where we take the entire engine out and put all new gaskets in it. at least a $2,000 job for the customer. it may be time to look for a good deal on it as a trade in.

2002 Land Rover Discovery starts but idles rough.

BAD spark! check plugs wires and coil packs. the wires are a real pain to replace because of the location of the coil packs between the intake manifold and firewall.

2003 Land Rover Discovery- ABS,

This system uses 4 speed sensors to measure the individual wheel speeds and detect slip, if u are just driving along at a steady speed and these lights come on then u have a problem, if they come on while accelerating or in 4 wheel drive then u may not have a problem, in order to test the system for faults the dealer will need to test the ABS system for fault codes, all the systems u mentioned are controlled by and an off shoot of the active ABS system, an active ABS is able to apply brakes without any input from the driver, that allows it to to do the Traction control and other traction control related functions like downhill descent control, so if the answer to the questions is that the lights come on at normal cruise then yes you have a malfunction in the system, the most common fault is one of the 4 wheel speed sensors has a corrupted signal due to dirt or metal particles clinging to it, it is a magnetic type sensor.
