2006 Sonata ESC Off Light

The dash lights for the "ESC Off" and the ABS just came on. Just driving, no indication of any problem. I have about 30k miles on the car. Anyone know what is going on?

I had the same problem at 35,000 miles. I would be driving and suddenly the ESC Off Light would illuminate. It would disappear if the car was turned off, only to reappear after a few miles of driving. It turned out to be a faulty "brake light switch."

Check Engine light and ESC OFF light

This morning the Check Engine light and ESC OFF light came on in the 2006 Sonata that has 46K miles. This happened about 15 minutes after I strated driving and the car refused to accelerate. No matter how hard I pressed the gas paddle, it won't go past 60MPH.

I had this problem with my sonata. The other day I had to start and restart my engine 43 times before the ESC OFF light went out and I was able to accelerate. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a brake light switch and said it was fine. The next morning it was doing the same thing. This time they said it was the throttle body so they replaced it and today it worked fine. We'll see tomorrow.

2007 Hyundai Sonata ignition locks up intermittently

My 2007 Hyundai Sonata worked perfectly fine for 26 months. Then the ignition locked up on me! I had it towed to Wilkins Hyundai in Elmhurst, IL, and they said that they put a brand new ignition in. TWO WEEKS later the ignition locked up again! A tow truck was called, and the driver just bashed the side of the key with a flashlight and it turned. Now it is a month later and it locked up again. The car was towed back to Wilkins Hyundai and the repair department told me that the ignition worked for 4 different people there. They asked me to come in for a "lesson" on how to start my car properly! Oh please! I never had a problem starting this car for over two years, and I've been driving for more than 40 years--I don't need a LESSON, I need my car to work! Any ideas before I have to go for my "lesson" tomorrow????

Ok this just happened on my 2008 Hyundia Accent. Here is the issue. DO NOT REPLACE YOUR IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER OR ANY PART. All it is is over time the oil in the locking mechanism dries and is used by dirt introduced by the key. The tumbler is no longer pins but strips of metal sitting against one another. When you insert the key the strip goes up and gets stuck and does not come back down. Thus not allowing the steering wheel to lock or the ignition to turn.

How to fix. Its easy and cheap a small hammer and a can of WD-40. I stress this next part DO NOT BASH THE ... OUT OF THE KEY THEN YOU WILL BREAK YOUR TUMBLER AND NEED TO REPLACE. Spray some WD-40 into the lock. Insert the key tap it gently with a hammer and try the key eventually the vibration will drop the piece and the car will turnover. Do repeatedly until you can start the car without a hammer. Than put WD-40 in your ignition tumbler every time you change your oil should never have this problem again. I was in the Navy where I was in charge of 20 plus High Security locks exposed to weather and dirt. A regular maintenance procedure we performed was to disassemble the locks and clean and oil them or they would gum up and lock and then we would have to spend hours breaking off a high security lock(not the easiest thing as you can imagine). I learned quickly it was easier to do preventive maintenance then to fix and replace. If your ignition is gummed up and won\'t turn it may take a hour or so to get it working properly again but it will work and it won\'t cost you 250+ in cash. Hope this helps.

getting P0011 code on Hyundai Sonata

getting P0011 code on Hyundai Sonata. Can anyone tell me what it means?

more than likely you have a bad oil control valve if in fact you have an 06 sonata. They are chain driven engines... You can ohm out the valve and get a good reading even when the valve is bad. Pull it out and check to see if it is clogged, if it is thats more likely your problem. If it is clean, go ahead and replace the valve. Hyundai calls them the oil control valve (OCV) and usually located on the head close the the variable valve sprocket.

I need to access alarm system control switch to

I need to access alarm system control switch to program keyless entry remote for 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Can not locate it in below fuse panel as instructed.

The Key less entry system in your Hyundai Sonata is part of the factory alarm system. If you have to replace a lost or damaged remote, reprogramming will be necessary. The remote is important because not only does it lock and unlock the doors, it also arms and disarms that factory alarm when you open or close your car doors.

  • Locate the fuse panel under the dash on the driver's side of the car. Just below it is the control module for the factory alarm system. Open the cover on the alarm system control module and locate the memory switch inside.
  • Verify that the switch is in the "Off" position; if it is not, switch it to the "Off" position. This is important for the system to understand what you want it to do when you move to the programming mode.
  • Insert the key into the ignition of your Sonata and turn the key to the "On" position. Wait for 60 seconds, then move the memory switch inside the control module to "Set."
  • SONATA: ACCESS CENTRAL LOCKING SIGNAL CONTROL MODULE LOCATED BEHIND FASCIA, CENTER.
ENSURE MEMORY SWITCH IS IN OFF POSITION.
Access alarm system control module located behind fascia panel in center (the module is located behind the ashtray, you must remove the fascia that surrounds the radio, climate controls, clock, etc.)
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Check the water levels. I had my 2011 sonata for two years and it started doing the same thing. You can look on line to see how to check and fill water levels. It's a really simple fix and cost the price of distilled water if you dont have any on hand.
