2000 Lincoln LS - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My 2000 lincoln ls cooling fan will not turn on.
Radiator cooling fan is not electric, it is driven by a silly hydraulic pump which is located low on the passenger side of the engine above the alternator. All 2000-2002 LS's have this system. Most likely either the motor or pump has failed.

Need to know a location for a coolant temp sensor
HI. Here are a few details about this remarkable sensor and its functions.
This sensor monitors the temperature of the engine and sends that information to the engine control computer to regulate the amount of fuel needed. More fuel is needed if the engine is cold; less if it's hot. If the temperature is extreme, the signal will be sent to the temperature gauge as a visual indicator of overheating and imminent danger. The location of this device(Cylinder Head Temperature Sensor) will be on the passenger side of the cylinder head, under the third intake port from the front in the valley of the engine. White/violet, and brown/white will be the colors of the(2) wires that connect to the sensor.
- NOTE: Be sure to purge the coolant system before replacing this sensor.

Over-heating issue
2000 LS cooling system is a very tough system to diagnosis. Any kind of air in system will totally stop the flow and cause it to heat. That is the reason it has 2 places to bleed the air from the system. The one at the engine where the upper hose connects and one beside the brake booster near the degas bottle(rubber tube with a screw end).
The cooling fan is also hydraulic and has it's own power steering pump.
The good thing about this system is that it uses a cylinder head temp sensor that measures the metal temp and not engine coolant temp. When the PCM sees the CHT reach a certain temp it will start shutting down 4 cylinders at a time and use these cylinders as actual air pumps to help cool the engine down.If this does not work it will then shut the engine down totally until the temps come back down.
The most common problems we see are thermostats, crack degas bottle,or a leak somewhere, and of course air in the system. Have not seen a cracked head yet however did see one that pushed the plug out of the cooling port in the head but this also filled the oil with coolant.
Have also seen cooling fans that would not work until PCM demmanded high speed, caused by a weak power steering pump.

I have a 2000 lincoln Ls V8 3.9.. The coolant boils, i relpaced the water pump as well as the thermostat. What causes the coolant to boil??
1st, test the water pump and make sure with the belt off, that it turns freely now that you've installed it. Sometimes the impeller is not pressed on completely, and these don't turn properly. Maybe you did this but just in case: Always free spin anything installed , IE: water pump, oil pumps, alternator, generators, camshafts, crankshafts, etc., before moving to the next step.2nd. Verify the belt installation. With today's serpentine belts, a wrong turn may cause the pump to run backwards, but seem correct. There should be a specific diagram under the hood or on the fender.3rd. If the Belt's OK, Pump's OK, and you have properly installed the new Thermostat. (I have seen them installed upside down and they won't work that way.) If you filled it properly, making sure it was 100% full, then you may be dealing with a blown head gasket, cracked head, or a cracked cylinder wall.I hope this helps & good luck!

My 2000 lincoln Ls V6 started running rough when cold at idle but clears up when engine warms up. Any thoughts?
that does not sound to bad may be tight motor (low miles) or broke down oil, (When was the last time you did an oil change w/ quality oil?) weak oil pump ( keep an eye and ear out for unusual engine sounds , immediately pull it over and try to get it towed to fix it..(AAA motor club?) either way if you listen to your engine you will figure out to crank it up and let it idle while you get ready to go (say 15 minutes prior to leaving home.) that way there is not significant wear on a cold start and go (like my woman) and like most people .Also when was the last time you did a tune-up?

I have a 2000 licoln ls can anyone tell me what the number 25 fuse in the trunk
its referred to as p-b/j operates like the different components
The owners manual that comes with the car, would have the answer for you.
You will need lo look in the index for Fuses, and will have diagram of the fuses, amperage, colors, and what it manages, such as lights, and so on.
If its not found in the manual, it maybe an aftermarket install, and is ideal to take it to a Lincoln repair shop.

2000 Lincoln ls how can I tell if a fuse is blown?
Locate the fuse boxes (there may be more than one) using a 12v test light (best) or test meter check both sides of each fuse while it is in place in the fuse box and both sides should provide power if the fuse is good. You may have to turn the key on and lights on to check all the fuses for power.A bad fuse will only light the test light on one side of the fuse.Another method would be to remove each fuse and visually check it for a blown out element but that will take a lot longer to do.
