Thank you for using FixYa

I have a 1990 xj6
Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Is your check engine light on? What all have you tried so far?
There is a clunking coming
the rear axle uses drive shafts with a universal coupling on each end and one of these couplings is wearing out ,shouldnt be too diffficult to replace ,havent done one myself as yet although i do own one of these cars
I am having a hared time geting to the top starter
The easiest way to get to the starter bolts for removal on 1990 xj6 is using a socket and extension bar.
If removing bolt with socket extension bar is hard then,
The bottom bolt is very easy to get out. The top bolt is removed primarily with a ratching wrench. You can back the bolt out only so far then you have to use the open end side. It is a long bolt so prepare yourself. The last few turns will need to be done with your fingers.
-----------
· Disconnect
battery ground cable.
· Remove bolt
securing starter lead and transmission breather tube to starter mounting
bracket.
· Disconnect
starter lead from starter terminal on firewall.
· Remove top bolt
attaching starter mounting bracket to bellhousing.
· Raise and
support vehicle.
· Remove lower
mounting bolt, then remove starter and mounting bracket as an assembly.
· Remove starter
lead from starter solenoid.
· Disconnect
mounting bracket from starter.
· Reverse
procedure to install.

This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
Instructions to replace a warter on a 1990 jaguar
very easy to do but you have to remove the radiator first ,dont think you need to remove the AC rad though as because its a 1990 it still used R12 gas so its only a small rad for this model ,removal of the radiator is simple enough just remove the torq headed screws that hold the long metal plate over the top of the rad and the rad then just lifts out ,usual pipes and oil cooler pipes on rad then the belts .now the trick here is to remove the front grills so that you can use long extensions for the sockets to undo the water pump ,get a quinton hazal replacement from auto factor as original jag pieces are very expensive ,last one i changed was about 90euros trade price to me but what you will pay??
The brakes on my jaguar xj6 is hard and not
A hard brakepedal and poor braking means the brake power booster not working. There is a large vacum line that supplies power to the brakes and a check valve to ensure the vacum stays constant. If vacum system is good then booster is bad..most times the brake fluid leaks out the back ofbrake master cylinder and eats up brake booster
Where is fuil pump in
The fuel pump is usually located in/on the fuel tank, but with your jag, it is mounted externally from the tank. Frame mounted design with an inlet and outlet fitting...
Jack up the rear left hand side. Put the car on axle stands. Remove the left hand rear wheel.
You should be able to follow fuel line back to the fuel filter (just
forward of the wheel arch) and then to the fuel pump which is behind
wheel arch, (before the rear silencer/muffler).
One thing though, you might just have a faulty fuel pump relay, which on
your 1990 can be found in the engine bay, left side, attached to the
brake pedal hanger.
If you do decide to remove the fuel pump after all, then depressurize
the fuel system first.
Remove fuel filler cap, disconnect the fuel pump relay, start engine and
wait for it to stall. Turn off ignition, then disconnect battery.
Take all the usual precautions before disconnecting fuel lines, rags, container to catch spilt fuel etc.
Hope that helps, please rate me too thanks!
1990 jag xj6, 4.0 eng, 114k, plugs,
under the coil is mounted a bosch ignition module with seven connections on it ,renew this module thats all it needs ,if that doesnt work change the front crank sensor ,one 10mm headed bolt holds it it on ,either one of these could have a intermittant fault ,the front crank sensor is a jaguar only part and costs about 50 euros the ignition module is a standard type and is available from a auto factor if its in your hand as it doesnt show in the catalogue but its the same as a vw golf ,vw transporter and some citreons and peugeots as well ,should not cost more than 35 euros
I need to replace the antenna grommet. How do I
Use a 13mm (possible 14mm) open ended wrench on the chrome ball attached to the body with a black seal around it. The wrench will only fit on one way. After you unscrew it slide it up over the antenna. You may have to loosen the antenna motor on the right hand side behind the trim (a couple of 8mm bolts if I recall) and then you can cleanly remove the grommet and replace with a new one. Reverese the removal procedure to reinstall.
Good Luck.
The trans light comes on the dash in my 1990
Did you check the fluid? Has any service been done to the tranny lately? How about that filter? If no, you might have a couple bad solenoids in the tranny, they can be accessed from the bottom without taking out the tranny, but they are not necessarily the problem. You will have to find out what tranny you have in there and find a website forum that has it on there, you will learn a lot real fast. Check it out, Hope this helps.
