Radio code
- CODE ENTRY: The proper five digit code for the radio is listed on the two cards supplied in the radio security envelope. After installation or when the radio requires reprogramming the word "code" will appear on the display screen. Enter the code by using the preset buttons numbered 1 through 5 . If a "beep" sound occurs when the code is initially entered, it is then necessary to re-enter the code starting with the first digit. The "beep" sound was provided to indicate the starting point for code entry. If the code has not been properly entered after three successive attempts , the radio will then not accept any entry until the radio has been left "ON" for one hour (vehicle ignition must be "ON"). After one hour in the "ON" position, the radio will then accept three additional entry attempts. Also, if a push-button is touched accidentally when the ignition is "OFF", a warning tone will sound. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position and the warning tone will stop.
- Radio security codes will not be given to anyone under any circumstance other than authorized jaguar dealer personnel after proof of vehicle ownership and proper identification has been established. A separate security envelope with the attached instruction is provided in each radio package. If the radio has been port installed, the security package will be placed in the vehicle glove box. NOTE: When the car arrives at the dealership, the radio will be in the inoperative mode even though it has already been installed. It is imperative that no attempts be made to install a tape cassette while the radio is in this mode. The cassette will not eject and damage may occur when removal is attempted.

1991 XJ6 ignition barrel replacement
Remove the steering column panels and turn the key to position 1, there is a hole that is on the steering lock assembly that you need to use a pick or similar rool to puch in the hole and release the spring tension, then the barrel slides right out and make sure you put the new barrel to position 1 and it will slide right in and "click" in place. Put the panels back on and your set to go.

1991 XJ6 cylinders 5/6 not firing
Check for spark at the cylinders you mention. Unplug the wires from the spark plugs, put a spark plug in the end of the wires, and attach the body of the plugs to earth, or an exposed metal part of the engine. With the engine running, you should have spark at the plugs. If no spark, get the ignition system tested. If there is spark present, and you think the fuel is ok, then the compression must be at fault. The things that are required for combustion are: spark, fuel, and compression. Get a compression test done on the engine, but first check for any vacuum leaks in the inlet manifold around the cyl 5 and 6 area.
Jaguar xj6 1991 2.9 manual
2 things, first of all teh distributor cap and rotor go bad causing the car to have spark but not fire, secondly you need to make sure that you are getting fuel to the engine bay, if not then it could be the fuel pump.
In regard to the other gentlemans question, starts but cuts out I would start with the same process and open your fuel flap and make sure there is no water around the filler area as it sounds like you could also have water in your gas. (there is a drain next to the filler neck and it gets clogged over time, then when it rains or you wash your wash, that area fills with water and seeps into the tank)

1993 Xj6 check engine light on the VCM say Fail 17. Can I continue to drive
ff17 is throttle position sensor its the variable resistor on the throttle body or wiring to it thats causing the fault code the car will carry on working but the fueling will not be correct cos its working on get you home system so the ecm uses basic settings to keep the engine running ie, avg temp etc.
