Coil is not firing
This going to likely result in replacing the crank position sensor. This sends a signal to the vehicle computer to tell it when to fire/pulse the coil and injectors. I suspect if you remove one of the injector plugs and insert a circuit tester on the positive side(DO NOT USE A TEST LIGHT using a light "bulb" of any sort, they take too much power and can fry the computer)(the circuit testers use LEDs) that you will not find it pulsing while being cranked. Let me know what you find.

How can I obtain instructions and diagrams to
Do not rely on proper diagrams online for free. Please, i really suggest going to your local auto parts store and buying a Haynes or Chilton manual. They only cost $20 and will cover everything. Haynes isnt as detailed as chilton but has a really great troubleshooting section. Chilton doesnt have the troubleshooting section but is a lot more detailed while explaining the process of repair. Good luck! Please rate the solution if i was able to help :)

How can I change out
You should be able to fit a butter knife below the switch and wedge it up wards, then just disconnect the harness connector with a small screw driver.
Good luck, and let me know if I can further assist you.

Where is the fuel pump
Inside the fuel tank, not if you know what you are doing or are good at following instructions while troubleshooting a bit, and it depends. Some fuel pumps are 130 bucks some are 400 bucks and thats just for the part.

Passenger front window stuck half way
Couple of questions: Does the window work with either the driver door switch or the passenger door? Do you hear any noise when pressing the switch? Like a click? Can you pull up or down on the window? Is either electrical (fuse, switch wiring) or mechanical. New cars use a cable regulator instead of the old gear system. The cables can fray and get stuck or break. You have to replace the whole assembly on most cars. Check out the internet for pricing since the dealer will chare quite a bit. Some cars are more prone to this then others. I have replaced three in my daughters Grand Cherokee already. Let me know more info so I can help.

I have a 1997 Kia Sportage (#KNAJA5278VA787759).
I had a simular problem.
Ended up changing the themastat and the gears changed into overdrive when the temp. got to normal running.
Be carefull that you get right thermastat though. You want one that reaches the normal working Temp as soon as possable.
Hope this helps.

I have no fifth gear and no reverse
The shift linkage inside the transmission is bent or broken. From the shifter there is a ~10 inch shift rod that goes into the transmission which toggles a fork that selects one of three independent levers in the transmission. When you go into reverse it pushes the rod to the left and locks onto the rod which controls 5th gear and reverse. If the forks are damaged then it cant grab the knuckle of the rod and therefore it want engage the gear You will probably notice if you go back and forth from 1st to reverse a bunch of times you may even get it to drop in once and awhile. The fix requires removing the transmission from the car and taking it apart to access the inside linkage.
You best bet is to remove the transmission yourself as that is the bulk cost of repair (about $800.00), then take it into a transmission shop for a fix. You should be able to get it repaired for about 200 dollars.

Have an antifreeze leak coming
I'm pretty sure if it were the heater core, you would have antifreeze soaking your carpet, and the inside of your car would smell of antifreeze. Your inside windows would also fog up when you turn on the heater.
