1992 Saturn SL1 - Page 3 Questions & Answers
Car shuts off while driving,why?
I'd have a shop look at it, reason being early Saturns are KNOWN for electrical issues - shorting out at fuse box and assorted wiring issues.
I have a 1992 saturn sl1 twin cam with 140,000
The s-series saturns were known for all kinds of problems with their transmissions, you could have a bad shift solenoid or a worn pressure regulator valve inside the valve body causing hydraulic pressure loss, i would try and service the transmission drain the fluid and replace the spin on filter, if that doesnt help the shifting problems theres more then likely a problem with a shift solenoid or a worn prssure regulator valve both require the top transmission pan be removed, once its removed ohm out the 5 solenoids, the resistance should be between 4.5 and 6 ohms if one or more of the solenoids are out of these values replace the solenoid with a new unit, do you have a service engine soon light illuminated on your instrument cluster at all??
Need diagram and instruction for changing radiator
1) you can search and find a video of someone doing it on www.youtube.com
2) you can buy a repair manual very cheap on ebay with instructions and photos
3) you can find instructions and pictures at the reference area at your library in the
MOTORS MANUALS
So i was just wondering
A car that old is not worth rebuilding the engine. For the price of an engine rebuild you can buy a 99 Saturn with half the miles. Or you can call a junkyard and see if they can locate you a SOHC saturn engine to fit a 92, probably any Saturn SOHC up to 95 will do. Used motor will cost 300-400 dollars plus removal/install while a rebuild will cost you 1500 at least plus a removal/install.
I need to know where
Where all O2 Sensors have been for 25 years
In both ends of the converter
Some times, just before converter in exhaust pipe
An O2 Sensor Code---Does Not mean it is bad or has to be replaced
The code indicates it went out of range
You need to find out why.
Then only if you test it, and it has failed, would you replace it.
My car has 110K miles
Saturn's have a recurring problem for burning oil; almost all of them do it. If your really worried, put in a high mileage oil and an oil stabilizer like lucasoil or something.
My 92 saturn sl burns
Need some more info. How much gas are you putting in it? Does it smell like raw gas at anytime? Under the hood or under the car? Possible broken (rusted) fuel line. Any service engine lights on? Does the car seem to run well?
I have a 1992 Saturn and it runs great but if I go
sounds like your radiator is overheating and the a/c isn't getting enough cool air for the condensor.
The a/c problem is probably low freon (r134a) level and the overheat condition is due to a construction in the cooling system.
They are kind of separate issues.
good luck on fixing this one.
Burning oil but runs very strong with good plugs
Are you sure it's burning the oil? Check your oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets for leaks. Is the car smoking? (light grayish or white smoke is oil, black or dark bluish is fuel) Could be bad valve seals. Also, main seals can leak oil out onto exhaust parts.
