1997 Hyundai Elantra - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
Hyundai Elantra 1.6 1997 model overheats after it has no power. What could be the problem ?
Check for water in the oil (gooey foam after running) - blown head gasket. Check for exhaust smelling bubbles in the radiator - blown head gasket. Otherwise heat activated fan switch (on the radiator) is not coming on soon enough or at all. No fan will overheat an engine especially if a lot of stop and go or idling on warm days. Most common is a stuck thermostat, blocking circulation. Other causes are a blocked radiator - shut a warmed engine off and feel the radiator all over - if too cool in some areas, it is possibly getting clogged up inside. If you are getting radiator antifreeze smell inside the car (fogging the windshield when the car starts in cool weather) your heater core is leaking.

No power in 5th gear
Hi Pocketlock.Have you tried tuning it up? Try changing your spark plugs, wires, and change your air filter. You can also put an injector cleaner in your gas tank. (Techron or Seafoam are good products, Techron is better in my opinion). You should see a difference in engine performance. Hope this helps.

check the earth wire from the battery there maybe a fault with the electrics. check the earthing points and connection to the battery.clean earthing points and connections. electric faults could be anything but these are the most common things to check. also if you have a meter check the battery check its volts before starting engine and check after the battery that is fully charged should read 12.04 or a bit higher. and with engine running it should be 14.00 volts can be higher by a bit. if the battery is fully charged and lower than 12 volts it has a problem if the charging from the engine is lower the 14v then they could be a problem with the alternator. if you have a drop out while driving parts of the system will drop as the voltage has dropped below it working rate. abs is 11 volts or lower will cut this out and say its not working and so on with other devices.

Radio not working on 1997 hyundai elantra
Check the fuse. If its okay there may be another fuse behind the unit (inline fuse) more common if the radio was replaced with an after market unit. Also make sure the ground strap on the radio is connected to a solid metal part of the car.
