Can anyone please tell me the location of the camshaft position sensor on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra with a 2.0 L engine?
I recently changed the timing belt and now the check engine light is on with code of P 0340 indicicating a problem with the camshaft position sensor. The engine seems to start and run fine. I was very careful with getting the timing correct with the belt installation and I assume it is correct since the engine does start and rune fine.
Thanks for your assistance.
Carl Sinner
The camshaft position sensor is located on the engine near the timing belt cover and under the upper radiator hose.

Speedometer and tachometer not working
My 1998 Elantra speedometer is also not working. Before it went, the car seemed to stutter a few times on and off. I think the speedometer driven gear needs to be replaced but I'm not sure.

while driving the car qiut. would not restart. found that when the ignition key is turned on it blows the 20 amp ecu fuse in the power distribution box. what could cause this and what does ecu stand for? I have checked the wire from the 02 sensor and it is not shorted out
ECU= Electronic Control unit. This is what controls all the engine electronics. All the sensors on the engine and other things are routed through the part. What it does is tells the engine how to run. Each sensor plays a specific role. The ECU reads how much are the engine is getting, tells the engine how much gas it needs, etc. Try digging around a salvage and finding a new ECU. Swap it out, and if it is still blowing the ECU fuse then you need to start looking for shorts.

I did a timing belt and water pump replacement. Everything went back together fine, car starts up and runs smoothly. After about 15 minutes, the CEL lights up. The code is 0340, CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR "A" SENSOR (BANK ONE OR SINGLE SENSOR). I plugged in a code reader, and reset the CEL. 15 minutes later, the CEL lights up with the same code. I ran the car for over an hour, with no other symptoms. What can cause this? Is the car OK? How do I fix it?
Here's what the shop manual says.

hi i got an error code of p1611 thank u
P1611 =
MIL request signal circuit
low input
MIL-on Request
Line
This code is set when the MIL On Request from the TCM (Transmission Control Module) has/had a problem getting the information to the ECU (Engine Control Module). In the 98 Elantra, there are two separate computer modules; one for the engine, the other for the transmission. (both located under the dash Driver's side. The diagnostic procedure specifies the wiring between the ECM & TCM be checked for any damage/defects. If none found, then replace the TCM with a new one to see if the problem (code) occurs again. If communication between TCM & ECM is corrected, you should have a ****** code related to the MIL On Request from the TCM (****** codes begin with P07 w/the next two digits (??) identifying the specific transmission component/malfunction).
You can also Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop & owner manuals, service bulletins, campaigns, illustrations and procedures, etc
