it sounds like your shift lever is loose and now your Park/Neutral safety switch is out of position. Try, with foot on brake, holding key in start while you move shift lever slowly from park to low.

It sounds like the linkage fell off. If you crawl under your car you should see the linkage or rods seperated.

check the fuses and the connection on the plug

Normally the thermostat is on top of the engine. Find the top radiator hose and follow it to the engine, it should be in the housing that attached to the top of the motor. Remove that housing and you should see the thermostat.

If you check your brake lights you will probably notice that they are not working either. There is a switch on top of the brake pedal lever that often gets hit by the Drivers feet. You have to drop the oil pan on the transmission and take your old filter off and put your new one on and seal the pan and back on
