2004 Lincoln Aviator - Page 6 Questions & Answers
When I got home today I put my Aviator in park,
it sounds like your shift lever is loose and now your Park/Neutral safety switch is out of position. Try, with foot on brake, holding key in start while you move shift lever slowly from park to low.
Replacing thermostat
Normally the thermostat is on top of the engine. Find the top radiator hose and follow it to the engine, it should be in the housing that attached to the top of the motor. Remove that housing and you should see the thermostat.
Gear shift
If you check your brake lights you will probably notice that they are not working either. There is a switch on top of the brake pedal lever that often gets hit by the Drivers feet. A signal from this switch is necessary to allow the gear shift to move.Sometimes the switch is knocked out of position and can be refitted, sometimes the switch is hit so hard that it breaks. Once you fix this switch, the gears will shift. The purpose of the switch is to make sure your foot is on the brake so the vehicle can not lurch when it is put into gear.
