2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I own a Mitsubishi Challenger '03 model. Lately,
Hello Tarochan,
The first place to start is to retrieve any fault codes the on-board computer may have registered.
The flashing lamp you are seeing is alerting you to a possible problem with the braking system or a possible fault is occurring withing the IPS (Instrument Panel Cluster) itself.
So..the best advise I can give you is to have a mechanic do a scan check for fault codes. This may provide some idea as where to start looking for possible problems.
Mitsubishi wont start
Did you install the belt with the number one piston on the compression stroke and have the distributor pointed at the number 1 plug connector wire. If so, you must of missed the belt placement by one tooth. If everything was correct like you mentioned it should of started. So, you made a small mistake that you will have to check again where, Im sorry :.(
Number 1 piston on the TDC of it's compression stroke, distributor pointed at the number 1 plug wire.
When on the compression stroke, the valve rockers on that piston will be relaxed (sealed) and the rockers will have play in them at that setting. Both rockers, intake and exhaust on number 1 will be loose when on the compression stroke of that piston.
Why is my check engine light on
Be sure you did blow a head gasket!!. Check for antifreeze loss, or white milky stuff in the oil. Look under the oil fill cap and radiator cap for white greyish goo. That will be a blown gasket from over heating.
To reset the engine light, there should be a toggle switch located somewhere under the dash, just switch it to the other side and your done. it is a very tiny switch, so you may need to look pretty hard for it.
Replace egr valve and check engine light keeps comming on
Might try resetting the system by disconnecting the battery lead for a few minutes. The system may be confused with the disconnection and new install, so removing power may reset it. Also, there is a engine light reset switch under the dash. Not exactly sure right where it is, but it is just a simple switch that can be moved from one side to the other. Like a toggle switch, but smaller. This resets the engine light headache and starts a new counter for the next time it lights up for something. Mitsubishi placed these switches on all there vehicles. My 86 truck has it right behind the speedometer under the dash. I use to have to switch it every 50K miles because it was programmed to turn on in that time range. I finally got tired of it and removed the bulb from the engine light warning thing. I don't suggest you remove the bulb,, but I do suggest you look under the dash for that reset switch and flick it to the other side for normal reset procedure.
Location of oil drain plug on 2003 montero sport
You will have to get under the vehicle and find the oil pan directly under the engine. On the oil pan you will locate the bolt to drain the oil pan. They usually are at the lowest point on the oil pan so that all the oil is drained from the pan when removed.
2003 Montero Sport 3.0L, 135K miles. Cold start, idle ok. Once warm, low idle and sounds like it has a miss.
Your going to need a wiring diagram. You have a MAF,MAP, IAT and EGR sensor problem. My guess would be a signal wire or ground is bad. These four sensors are right at the throttle body. The mass air flow sensor and the manifold absolute pressure sensor are one in the same. The intake air sensor is next to it. All are located in the air induction plenum. Between the throttle body and the air filter. The Engine gas recirculation valve/sensor is right behind the throttle body. So check the harness from the air filter/ MAF to the engine harness plug. Look for conduit that is rotted away and/or melted.
