1987 Peugeot 505 Questions & Answers
I have a 1987 505Gti. Goes great when it goes.
Bad fuel pump will do the same thing, I have a 97 Chevy that did the same thing. I would have to sit for a few minutes then start up and drive blocks and it would die again< I could let it sat for 10 minutes and drive farther. I replaced the fuel pump and it never happened again. If not that then it could be the ignition switch or coil getting hot and shutting car off.

these engines with manual rockers had wider than usual settings as i remember ,but set to around 12 th inlet and 15th exhaust and you be far out and check for wear under the actual tappet and if excessive then renew as parts still available but the settings i give should stop the noisy exhaust tappets these cars are famous for

Check your fuses & then recheck your wiring. Sounds like something might have worked itself loose after changing the switch out.
What causes Peugeot 505 to over heat
waterpump belt is slipping. pressure test system. radiator is blocked. can't be flushed satisfactorily, fit new one.

Gear lever moves up and down only - can select neutral and third only
gear change cable has either come loose or broke one or the other and you can only buy the cables as a pair and around 200euro mark ,not difficult to change but dealer only part so expensive although all the cables used on these cars are actually made in england around basingstoke area if i remember rightly ,best advice is to ask a local mechanic to have a look to confirm my diagnosis
