80w90 but have heard people putting 15w40 in it in real cold weather because the gear oil gets real thick in extremely cold temps.

What does temp switch 2 do on 1988 22r

EFI temp switches, are covered in the FSM but they do the same on all cars EFI it lets the ECU know of the coolant reaches full temp or partial and all ECU use that to set fuel mix to perfect as engine warms. on new cars we use only a single thermistor sensors called ECT (old WTC) to do all that. this old system is very barbaric, in todays terms ok did you try rockauto.com http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=1277591&parttype=4748 The 2-valve SOHC 2.4 L (2,366 cc) 22R was produced from 1981 through 1997. non turbo ,right? there are up to 4 temp senders. gauge sender, 1pin ECT , 2 pin and 2 temp switchs. and A/C cut for overheat. and others. and if California car 2 or 3 more. see FSM for that. complex. getting the correct one takes great skill. id use SMP catalogs to match it. smp makes many http://www.standardbrand.com/online%20catalogs-ecatalog/content.aspx TS73 is gage TX18 is ECt ETS3 is the calif deal.

1988 Toyota Pickup 3.0 V6 with CA emissions. There is a vaccum line running across the fire wall to the drivers side. I don't know where it connects to. Has vaccum when the engine is accelerated.

IN uSA? open hood , look up, behold a vacuum map, EPA mandated. not in usa, i pass, there are 100 vac, setups world wide. in any country the the FSM covers this. in USA we have alldata.com and it does cover this. btw , we crushed a million 80s cars. due to the 500 buck crush bounty campaign here. the vacuum likes are like 50 fold. and no man on earth could fix it. no mortal man. do say what you have and where you are. first.

Cold start not working

cold start will not work until bypass removed. Water must reach the throttle body for it to detect how warm the water (and therefore the engine) is.

sounds like auto shutoff relay or fuel pressure issues..also check for a plugged up fuel filter..88 has a carb that may need a shot of cleaner spray to open up clogged internal passages and look for loose vacuum lines somewhere..

88 yoy p/u-- efi-- 2.4 --2x4....ran great at idle but up around 55mph and put in pasting gear with the gas to the floor it engine cuts off... wont start unless u turn the ign switch off then back on i

There is a 'wot' (wide open throttle) switch somewhere connected to the gas pedal or the fuel system. Usually it only turns off the air conditioner to protect it from excessive rpms. If it somehow is affecting the fuel or ignition system, I suspect a computer problem. Have the codes checked, at this age, the computer may be failing.
