What does temp switch 2 do on 1988 22r
EFI temp switches, are covered in the FSM
but they do the same on all cars
EFI
it lets the ECU know of the coolant reaches full temp or partial
and all ECU use that to set fuel mix to perfect as engine warms.
on new cars we use only a single thermistor sensors called ECT (old WTC) to do all that.
this old system is very barbaric, in todays terms

non turbo ,right?
there are up to 4 temp senders.
gauge sender, 1pin
ECT , 2 pin
and 2 temp switchs.
and A/C cut for overheat.
and others.
and if California car 2 or 3 more. see FSM for that. complex.
getting the correct one takes great skill.

Cold start not working
cold start will not work until bypass removed. Water must reach the throttle body for it to detect how warm the water (and therefore the engine) is.
