How do you time a toyota 4 runner 3.0?
22r-E, 3vz-E And 3f-E Engines
Attach the tachometer as shown
3. Start the engine and run it at idle. Check the idle speed on the tachometer; adjust it to specification if necessary.
4. At the check connector, use a small jumper wire to short the connector at terminal T or TE1 and terminal E1, of the DLC1 as shown. Special service tool (SST) 09843-18020 or its equivalent can be used for this also.
Connect the SST or jumper wire to the TE1 and E1 terminals of the DLC1
This jumper will be used repeatedly during diagnostics in later sections. Take the time to make a proper jumper with correct terminals or probes. It's a valuable special tool for very low cost.
On 3-FE engines, remove the rubber plug at the rear of the engine to view the timing mark
On other engines, the timing mark is visible on the crankshaft pulley

I have a 2001 4Runner. It has been great since I bought it new. I recently had my first issue with it. I basically put down the tailgate window about half way every single time I am driving. It provides great air circulation. The last time I was putting the window down it actually slipped "Off Track" and fell right down into the door. I managed to pull the glass up by hand and once I had it position I was able to keep it closed tight by turning the key and holding it in place until it reached the closed position. Is this something I could repair myself if I purchased the parts necessary to fix the problem? The moter is fine and both the dash board switch and key to open the window are fine. How would I take off the interior panel of the tailgate to see what parts I would need? Thank you for you help!
before you go and buy anything,it may be a good idea to open the rear door panel and see if the window just came of the rail guides on the regulator, there are two white small wheels on the regulator that ride on a guide rail attached to the window this rail is attached to the window by two rivets or bolts, just take the cover panel of and see what is the matter in there. here ara steps to get there.
NOTE
Tape the screwdriver tip before use to avoid damaging the trim pieces.

Hi my dad has referred me to you, could you help me with the problem with my 91 toyota 4runner? It is a V6 3.0L 4x4 automatic transmission. The engine is a 22R-E and the transmission is A340F which i believe is stock for the 91 toyota 4runner. The problem started when i was going out of down and was driving for hours on the highway, before that i didn't notice it so i can't say it wasn't there before then. I was driving down the highway for only a few minutes, maybe 4 or 5 minutes and suddenly my RPM would go up. It was sitting at about 2500 going about 100km/h down the highway then it went up to about 3700 going same speed. I have tried many things to try and fix it, i turned my O/D switch on and off, i also switched into neutral while going down the highway, waited for the RPM to drop down under 1000RPM then switch back into neutral but still went back up to 3700RPM, i also tried to speed up to 120/125km/h thinking it might gear up but did not, and RPM would reach 4200RPM. Also my fuel consumption is outrageous, i am using twice as much as i should be. I getting about 200km on a 60L tank of gas. I have changed my throttle position sensor, and my coolant temperature sensor. I have checked for proper transmission fluid and radiator fluid amounts. It has been hesitating for about a second when i am completely stopped. But does not hesitate every time. Over the last week it has gotten worse, it no longer jumps up while driving down the highway, when i go up to 100km/h it is at 3600RPM almost like whatever was the problem has stopped working entirely. And the hesitation has been getting alot worse yesterday i had it hesitate for about 2-3 seconds. My dad rigged me up a wire with clips/fuses and a button to activate my error codes while driving because i was not getting any codes while i was parked. So while driving at 100km/h i pushed the button to activate the error codes and my O/D light began to blink constantly(no codes) and my check engine light blinked with error codes 41 and 51.
41 is the
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL--OPEN OR SHORT INtps SIGNAL--tps SENSOR
--tps SIGNAL/CIRCUIT
--ECU
and 51 is
SWITCH SIGNALS
IDL (tps) CONTACTS OFF, NEUTRAL START SWITCH OFF, A/CSWITCH "ON" SIGNAL TO ECU
WITH DIAGNOSTIC CHECK CONNECTOR SHORTED
--A/C SWITCH/CIRCUIT
--A/C AMPLIFIER
--TPS/CIRCUIT
--NEUTRAL START SWITCH/CIRCUIT
--ECU
But i think that #51 was coming up because i was driving and not in park. I have also replaced a donut that was in my exhaust pipe before my Catalytic converter. I think that is about all, if there is anything you can think of would be greatly appriciated, thank you
kevin
Go ahead, get the TPS close, we'll final adjust it later.

hi i have 1991 toyota 4 with a 3vze i originally had fault code 52 fixed that was the wire shorting , and now i have put it back together and have a fault code 51 , its running good higher in the rpm and a bit rough at idle any ideas. think it may of had a vac lek but nope , i have bypased the fuel return where it goes through the cooler in the valey through the heater rail but thats it. cheers. could it be a dogy battery or one of the injectors not firing i think?
I have a 1990 4Runner A/T and solved the error #51 replacing the Throttle Sensor. Don't forget to connect a Ohmeter and adjust this sensor to its right ohmeter values for a properly installation, this sensor is not a PLUG & PLAY stuff. Oh, and the idle was fixed too.

auto trans will not shift into 4 th or o.d untill it is at norm op temp then shifts norm. If it cools down while running it will not shift again. It acts like vacc. temp switch? can you tell me where to look?
Thanks Chris
i had the same problem after spending $500.00 for toyota to look at it they didnt fix it and suggested i it was the auto trans and i should get it overhauled costing thousands. i didnt believe them and started to do some of my own research into the problem. the coolant temp sensor at the rear of the intake manifold tells the ecu when the engine is at correct operating temp then allows the auto trans shift into overdrive. to rule out any problems with the auto trans i disconnected the plug to the temp sensor and went for a drive when the engine was cold and it shifted straight away into overdrive no problems. you can't leave this disconnected because the engine is hard to start when cold as the temp sensor also tells the ecu that it is cold and allows the cold start injector to inject more fuel into the engine on cold start up.to overcome this i cut the wire to the sensor plug and installed a switch which i installed into the centre console.now i start the car flick the swith use overdrive then swith back to normal after car has warmed up . engine fault light appers on dash when switched on but doesnt matter. i have had this modification for 2 years now no problems.

It failed emissions test with hi CO and HC levels. What are the most common emission issues with these vehicles.
Not sure, but did you replace the oxygen sensors. Is your catalytic converter still good?

what is the e1 and te1 terminal
These are terminals in the diagnostic check connector usually located under the hood on pre 1995 models using the OBD1 diagnostic system, when a jumper wire is put in between both terminals and the key is on the check engine light will blink, giving you a two digit code
This code number can then be looked up to determine the fault of the engine control system.
Specifically, terminal E1 is ground and TE1 is linked to the computer's diagnostic section,.

how do you fold down rear seats in 1991 4 runner
There is a small loop about a 1/2" wide located next to the seatbelt "female end" they are a pain to find if they slide down behind the seat. pull it toward the front of the truck, you should be able to flip the bottom seat up and forward. Sometimes the seat belt will get stuck in the locking mechanism and you will have to pull hard to free it.
