I need illustrated repair manual for a 1995 to 1999 Toyota Tercel. None of the big dog repair manual publishers have one that covers the subject.
1995 to 1997 tercel? no repair manual sold. noy by chilton or haynes. there's supposed to be a detailed manual by toyota, sold only to repair shops, hard to get and it costs hundreds. definitely not any download version i've ever heard of.
1996 was before corporations were really into downloadable anything.

I don't know where the cable is disconnected, but I can't get the hood open (release lever moves, just doesn't do anything) & the oil light has just come on. Does anyone know how to open the hood without using the hood release? Please let me know, thanks.
Someone just successfully helped me with a similar problem. IF the cable is Not broken, ie: still taunt when one pulls the hood release lever in the car, then the latch under the hood is simply stuck. Try this. Have someone bounce/press down on the front center of the hood where the latch is located to relieve spring tension. At the same time have someone pull the Hood Release lever inside the car. This may pop open the front hood. Then after the hood opens spray WD40 on the hood latch to rid the rust which likely is the cause of the problem. BTW...don't know what you mean about the Oil Light comes on. You don't need the engine turned on to open up the front hood, at least not on my model (2door sedan).

1995 TOyota Tercel
where is the crankshaft position sensor; how can I replace it? Is it beneath the timing belt cover?
Similarly, where is the Camshaft position sensor, and how do I replace it?
Tnx!
de
Both are located under the timing cover.you will have to remove the timing sproket to get to the CrankshaftPS. be careful to notice how you removed it. the sproket have to be reinstalled exactly the same way you removed it.

1994 Toyota Tercel 1.5L EFI – Direct Drive starter - The car started everyday with no problems. One afternoon, I had to get a jump to go to work - battery seemed dead and starter made no noise when I turned the key. When I tried to start it to go home -nothing. Couldn't start it even with a jump. The starter does not even click. Removed starter and battery and took it to 3 different auto parts stores to test - battery failed with weak cell but starter passed every time. I even had them test it multiple times at each parts place and it always passed. Bought new battery, replaced battery terminal ends, reinstalled starter and turned key - still no sound from the starter. Checked continuity of ground and test light showed ground worked at both ends. Also put test light to starter and it showed that power was getting there. Pulled every fuse and only found two (EFI and some other minor 15 amp) that I had to replace. Still nothing. I hear the main relay fuse in hood fuse box click and EFI pump click when I turn key but nothing else happens. Lights don't dim when left on and I turn the key. But inside climate control fan and radio no longer work when I turn the key to accessory even though fuses are good. Everything else works, lights (dome, headlamps, tail lamps, flashers), horn, etc. I'm baffled at this point.
sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

95 tercel tail lights won't turn off
Stoplights are usually turned on by a switch mounted above the brake
pedal. When the pedal is fully released, it presses on the switch and
it breaks the circuit. When you press the pedal, it releases the switch
and the circuit completes, turning on the lights.
Most likely cause of this is that the switch is either broken or misaligned.
Adjust the switch to be depressed when the pedal is up. If the lights turn off, you're done.
If
this does not fix it, unplug the switch from the wiring harness. If
this makes the lights go off, your switch is broken, buy a new one. If
it does not, you have a short circuit in the wiring. You will need to
trace the harness, find the damage and repair it by splicing or
replacing the harness.
May be you could try these steps:

how do i replace the back shocks on my 1995 toyota tercel? Automatic transmission, 4 door tercel DX. How do I test to see if I need to replace rear shocks?
if you bounce the car by putting your weight on the rear bumper with your knee you can test the rear shocks. If the car bounces more than once on the way up you need shocks. I generally replace shocks on new cars with factory installed shocks anywhere from 40,000 - 50,000 miles. There are bolts at the top and bottom of the shocks that will have to be removed. You can do this a little easier by removing the rear wheels and placing the car on Jack Stands.
