Abs check engine light
check each ABS sensor on each caliper first. if wires are not intact, you can solder them. then move to sensor electronics.
The left of the engine
I.m having to guess which motor 3.3 or 3.0 but left or motor leaves out the 4 cyclinder. The ticking sound can be checked and there a some noises that are normal but their not very loud. You can change the oil and filter and right as it starts does it somewhat louder and then almost go away? Then is the engine warms up you get to hear it better? Does the sound go right along with engine speed? Can you run the engine breiftly with the fan belt removed and the sound is the same? If the sounds doesn't change with engine speed it might not matter if it changes as the engine heats up you might be able to change the kind of oil or the wheight and it'll be quieter or gone. If the sound is steady and goes along with engine speed and as the engine goes faster( reved up) and it doesn't get louder or goes away then your adviser might be right that it's a sound that they all make. To test this find someone with a car like yours and listen to it. Used car dealers and new car dealers may have a car just like yours and ask to road test the car if you like it you might trade cars.
