How do I replace the drive belt tensioner on a 2008 toyota highlander?
Is it the wheel or the belt that is squeaking if its the wheel take the wheel off and give it a wash to remove all traces of oil as that could be the problem. Re grease the shaft to help with friction. Not oil grease. Give your belt a clean too. If still squeaky put powdered chalk on it. Can get this from hardware store used for chalk string lines. Put on belt while running but be careful where your hand are. Where safety glasses and dust mask as will be messy. If you dont feel confident enuf to do this kinda thing do not atempt. Remember the belt is turning at a speed that will take your fingers off if you get to close.
To get belt off. Dont be silly dont use a screw driver. So engine is OFF. On the top of the tensioner is a bolt that release the pulley. Take belt off. Undo the other bolts securing the tensioner to the motor and repeat in reverse to replace with new unit. Hope this helps pm me if your having problems at

Snow button on my 2008 Highlander
The "snow" button sets the transmission to start off in second gear, and makes the accelerator less sensitive thus reducing the tendency to slip and slide. It also has the effect of reducing the power and responsiveness of the car. Try driving with the snow button "off" in "normal" snowy conditions and see how you go. Use "snow" for exceptionally icy conditions.
My highlander 2008, the doors can be locked and open with key and remote but cannot open the trunk with key and remote
To make the rear door open, you have to hold the button for a while. If the battery is weak, that will drain the power and the door will not open. Try the other remote and see if it works. At that point, I would replace the batteries in both remotes anyway.
That would be the fastest and cheapest way to eliminate one possible problem.
If the inside open button works to open the door, I would say the mechanism is working fine and it is the batteries.
I had to replace the batteries in both my remotes at the 3 year mark. That should be about now, the second time, for yours.

Axle nut size
Requires a 12 point - 30mm socket, you must also punch up the retaining dings to release it.
Why does "Vsc off" light come on?
Vehicle Stability Control (ESP) has either turned off by you,or getting false signals and turning itself off.
It gets signals from every single ABS sensor of the wheels (all 4).
What you can check:
-did you installed different wheel sizes recently?
-are the wheels allright?
-are the sensors and their cables allright?
If all this is OK and problem still occurs, write again! :-)
