Peugeot 405 - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

Sounds like your Mass Air Flow sensor is in need of service/ cleaning.

Most likely the ECU (Engine Computer Unit) is responding to some duff sensor / loose cable / whatever ..

All modern engines have more sensors than you can shake a stick at, some positioned in the most inaccessible places, that can cause the most obscure problems imaginable (remember the Oxygen Sensor in the Exhaust manifold that was 'poisioned' by some dufff supermarket petrol ??)

It's a Peugeot garage computerised diagnostics job I'm afraid...

did the head get resurfaced or planed

Could be the Particulate Filter blocked, and needs re-generating.

the rear exhaust box has filter in it and the sensor is showing it as blocked ,which i think it could be as their is a problem with this model and it has been modified ,i would be inclined to just fit a rear box with no fancy filter and try to do something with the sensor as it will continue to throw up the light which means it will not pass its inspection ,now the dealer might not be inclined to change this box as its expensive i think about 700+euros the last time i had this problem i fitted a normal box and shoved a shunt resistor across the sensor terminals ,but i dont know what the resistor value was as i took a load of old resistors out of an old tv and i tried then one at a time till teh light stayed out ,i know it had a gold band on it but thats about all

in automatic transmission box has two solenoids that were broken , so they must be changed , because I am peugeot specialist in Australia.

leave ign off with key out 3mins disconnet battery 5 mins reconnett and press lock/ unlock repeatedly until locks cycle through to re sync try this any probs come back to me

a haynes handbook,but i doubt it as a lot of immobilisers use the earth side of the relays to cut out engine and circuit diagram would make it too easy for the boy racers to half inch the jam jars.sort of classified info .sorry cant help

Hi the problem your having is going to be that the stereo is locked up now.
The only option you have left is to go to peugeot main dealer and take the car with you they can then reset it with a hard reset code this can only be done at the dealers they will not give the info out to anyone as the stereo could have been stolen so you will need to take the car to the main dealers.

run the fault codes and check for a faulty Transmission control module.

take the fuel filter out the housing and check the bottom for swarth ,now as for diagnostics -- laugh --you cannot read this vehicle as its a europeon build and it comes with encrypted software .This is a common rail fuel injection system with a fly by wire throttle and it could be a fault with the sensor on the pedal .now check the fuel filter first as they suffer with a build up of swarf in the filter which means the fuel delivery pump has broken up inside ,the swarf goes back to the tank where it gets sucked up again and then it ends up in the filter .if it is this then its about a 1000euros at least to sort out .please dont shoot the messenger

without seeing this vehicle i cannot give a answer ,the carb leaks ?? but this could be a faulty pipe thats perished or the accelerator pump diaphragm as the most common fault but without my head yunder the bonnet i honestly cannot say but the accelerator pump diaphragm is the most common fault

You've covered all the reasons why fan belts shred. I would suggest looking closer, and making sure the bearings are good in all belt driven devices.

sometimes a nut comes loose behind the end cover on ml5 box.

it would never be 1000 euros!!!!!!!!!!!! it will be part of the exhaust system it cuts out because its causing pollution

there are three likely problems.... check the battery of the vehicle if the battery is still ok, or the alternator is not supplying the right power and finally the fuse box has some burnt part in it internally...

its an electric pump on these vehicles and it has a thermal fuse ,by the sound of it i think this unit is playing up ,their about 600euros plus labout to change it

Hi,just reading with interest" Ianhende's" problem with his 406, I have the same sort of problem with a 2002 406 hdi (110) i.e hazards going off,plus central locking turning on & off whilst driving. have replaced battery, the mechanic is thinking that it is to do with a faulty door lock, any ideas out there ???? Which model is the car? I have the manual for Peugeot 406 Mar 1999 to 2002 in PDF format. If that's any good to you I can either send it via email or try and find the original link I downloaded it from.
