Tip & How-To about 2000 Pontiac Sunfire

Engine stalls when warm

This will be the crank position sensor every time. A good backyard mechanic can replace it, cost of the part will be more than the labour most times. takes about 2 hours to do.

What would be an estimate for parts and labor to replace the crank sensor?

Before you spend money on an assumption have the fault codes read and know what is wrong first. Otherwise it may be this then sorry that then sorry might be this ETC The cost would be about parts plus 1 hour local labour cost

my 2004 nissan maima fails to start on the first try. doesnt happen every time, but frequency is increasing. Been told it is probably a fuel line issue bu a backyard mechanic. Any ideas??

do you have a check engine light on?? If so, have the vehicle scanned at autozone for the error code. If it isn't on, this may be caused by faulty crankshaft or camshaft position sensor. Cam sensor controls firing and crank sensor controls fuel. This issue needs to be physically diagnosed!!

how much will it cost to replace a intake gasket seal in the shop including labour? and how much does the part cost and how easy would it be to do it yourself?

You must be talking about the 3.1. Very common problem. If you are NOT mechanically inclined, Don't attempt. There are 2 styles of gasket sets. Won't know which 1 you need until you take apart. The standard set costs about 56.00. The upgraded version is 86.00. Also change the thermostat, antifreeze and oil and filter. Dealer will charge about 5 to 600 . Backyard Joe, about 350-400
