Tip & How-To about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

2002 pontiac grand am not starting

My brother's 02 grand am 2.2L would not start. Car has spark, fuel pump works,
good battery, plugs and plug boots new, new fuse for the fuel pump in the fuse block under the hood, everything seems to work but car won't start, crank sensor fine timing chain fine etc... The problem was a security issue. Security light on dash was blinking when trying to start the car but car won't start. The fix for me was Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is blinking.
Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 12 minutes.
Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds. Then try to start the car. I was surprised this worked for me. 2002 pontiac grand am 2.2L. Hope this helps for you folks.

02 explorer crank sensor went bad replaced it but will not start. cleared code but never disconnected the battery. will that make a difference

if you car was working good before, and now did not start . the way you can check the crankshaft sensor is by scanner with data readings, if you turn over the engine is going to show rpm's at the scanner, that means the crankshaft sensor is working ok.if doesn't show rpm's the sensor or the connector is defective when this sensor is defective, they cut the spark and the signal to the injectors, another tips; ecm relay, fuel pump relay, spark plugs, maf sensor, inertia switch (defective key do the same with the theft light fashing and no turn over the engine) i hope this help you.

Spark plug blew out now car wont start

sounds like the autoshutoff relay may be bad..it controls the ingition and the fuel pump too..if the pump works check for spark by inserting a screwdriver into a pulled off spark plug wire and look for a decent spark between the screwdriver shaft and any ground like the block..if no spark the relay may not be powering up the ignition system..
