Tip & How-To about Ford Cars & Trucks

How to change speakers in your Ford vehicle (may work for other makes and models)

In this short video I show how I replaced the terrible sounding 5X7 speakers in a Ford Contour. There's a reason these speakers sounded so bad. If you listen to mostly talk radio it probably doesn't matter as much but if you enjoy good sounding music it's usually a good idea, in most cars (unless yours sounds good to you or you already have a premium sound system), to upgrade the factory speakers with aftermarket ones. Age can be another reason it may be time to upgrade and these were almost 19 years old.

18+ years on the factory speaker on right.

2011 ford escape no sound from radio

please check the speaker. usually the pigtail which connects the voice coil with the speaker lugs breaks with the movement of sound. if u have a soldering iron then you can resolder the wires coming from cone to the speaker connection lugs- but use short time to heat as over heat may burn the speaker cone.

when i apply my brakes on my 98 contour the front end shakes

Sounds like you have bad brake pads or rotors ..if you are not mechanical take them in somewhere ......if the brake pads are left too long the metal will wear away the rotors and then it all needs to be replaced....hopefully just the pads need replacing but it sounds like if it is shaking that bad rotors are gone too. usually the pads will make a sqeaking sound when the get to worn so you know that they need replacing.
