Tip & How-To about Saturn S-Series

Saturn S series runs rough

It is very common on ALL SATURN S series vehicle for ignition module failure. Usually the symptons are running rough and possibly a check engine light with misfire codes-P0300,P0301,P0302,P0303,P0304.
Some people have attampted replacing plugs and wires, even coils and continually have the problem reoccuring. What happens is the ignition module bolts(x4) stretch out through time and corrosion builds up underneath the module causing incorrect spark displacement. In turn this damages the plug wires and even at times the plugs. What needs to be done is replacing plug wires, plugs if needed, the ignition module bolts(saturn dealer item only)and the ignition module-NOT JUST THE COILS.
This should fix your problem.

buick Lesabre 1999 - 3800 my 1 & 4 coil pack not firing why?

i bet it is the ignition module, have it tested at oreillys or autozone, it is what the coils bolt to, common failure, or possibly a crank sensor

Car starts and runs. Once it's warmed up, the engine shuts off tried to start it again motor turns over but will not start. Wait a couple of hours then the motor will start again and then will shut off again the same way as before No check engine light. Is it a possible sensor or computer problem? 1993 Saturn SL1.

Wouldn't think sensor or computer problem , more likely an ignition module . When it dies pull a plug wire an check for spark ,i think you will find no spark . Just from my 30 years of diagnosing GM vehicle's this has been the #1 cause of a start an run till warm an dies an wait 20 min . to an hour an it starts again problem. But without testing to know for sure that would be a guess . Having a qualified an certified repair technician diagnose the problem is always the best idea.

reduced power light/check engine runs very rough 2005 ion

usually when it gets colder outside the car will misfire and run rough because the ignition module/coil pack goes bad and makes it misfire, youre gonna have to replace the coil and module,,its the black long piece that sits on top of the spark plugs,1 wire connector and 4 10mm bolts remove them and pull up hard to pop the plug boots off the spark plugs, then install the new parts and you should be ok

random multiple misfirings

Here is a list of possible causes. You should not drive the vehicle if the check engine light is flashing all the time, you can cause even more damage. It could pay to have a professional find the real cause.

Spark plugs that are incorrect for the application, cracked, improperly gaped or worn can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An IC module that failed to correctly control the ignition coil(s) will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
Poor connections, broken wiring or wiring that has shorts to ground can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times. NOTE: Check connectors that might be pulled apart as the engine flexes or wires that short to ground as they pass near brackets or shorts to ground on the exhaust manifold.
Fuel injector(s) that are shorted, plugged or partially restricted can cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
An ignition coil(s) that has low output, corrosion on the coil tower(s), is carbon tracked or arcs to ground will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
A PCM that failed to properly control the injector or ignition timing will cause the engine to misfire or run rough at all times.
