How to change ckp sensor on dodge p/u 5.2L and 5.9L

First find the connector to the crank position sensor at the rear of the engine around the distributor,normally to the left side of the engine, it is a 2 wire sensor connector. Unplug the connector and feed it back to the right hand rear of the engine block. Now you will most likely not be able to see the ckp sensor as it is in behind the block held in by 2 bolts on the bracket. Now you will need a socket (some have different size bolts usually a 13mm or a 10mm, but sometimes an allen key) a long extension 6 - 10 in a universal would come in handy and a ratchet normally 3/8". You have to reach in behind the block and feel where the sensor bolts go into the block, put your socket with extension on one of them and attach ratchet then turn to the left to loosen and remove the bolt. Do the same for the second bolt (this can be a pain sometimes as i said you more than likely can't see them). With bolts removed pull on the bracket or sensor body and you may have to wiggle or turn it slightly to remove it (it is in a rubber grommet and can get stuck or be stiff). Now you are ready to put the new sensor in at this point you should put a little lube on the sensor tip and body to allow it to slip into the rubber grommet in the block (otherwise you could have a time to get it to sit in there properly, some rust check or bearing lube will do. Now find the holes in the bracket for the bolts and carefully tread them in by hand (as to not cross tread them), once you have both bolts back in by hand a few turns, use the ratchet to tighten them down, but don't over tighten them, a torque wrench would be nice but can be hard to get an accurate reading with extensions and universal, so use your better judgment. Now all you have to do is feed the long connector lead back past your distributor and plug the 2 ends back together. Nothing to it. Hope this will help some of you. Good luck.

On the LEFT hand side of the car. Begin at the battery, then you can see the top cable harness (PINK) running around towards the rear. Just past half way, the Crank Sensor (GREEN) connector is there. This is the view from Left Hand side behind the engine looking forward and centre.

Remove the driver side rear ignition coil bolts. Reposition the coil. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector. # Use penetrating oil and allow the oil to soak around the CKP sensor prior to removing the sensor. You're looking at left, rear side of engine.

front side of engine on the drives side about half way up the timing cover, not hard to get to.

motor turns over but no spark changed coil and crank shaft sensor

well replace lots of coils but same with crank sensor on these trucks
  • For this test, an analog (non-digital) voltmeter is needed. Do not remove the distributor connector from the distributor. To perform a complete test of the Camshaft Position Sensor and its circuitry, refer to the DRB II diagnostic tester. Also see the appropriate Diagnostic Charts. To test the sensor only, refer to the following: See: Testing and Inspection
  • Using small paper clips, insert them into the backside of the distributor wire harness connector to make contact with the terminals. Be sure that the connector is not damaged when inserting the paper clips. Attach voltmeter leads to these paper clips.
PROCEDURE
  1. Connect the positive (+) voltmeter lead into the sensor output wire. This is done at the distributor wire harness connector.
  2. Connect the negative (-) voltmeter lead into the ground wire.
  3. Set the voltmeter to the 15 Volt DC scale.
  4. Remove distributor cap from distributor (two screws). Rotate (crank) the engine until the distributor rotor is pointed towards the rear of vehicle. The movable pulse ring should now be within the sensor pickup.
  5. Turn ignition key to ON position. Voltmeter should read approximately 5.0 volts .
  6. If voltage is not present, check the voltmeter leads for a good connection.
  7. If voltage is still not present, check for voltage at the supply wire.
  8. If voltage is not present at supply wire, check for voltage at pin-7 of Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 60-way connector. Leave the PCM connector connected for this test.
  9. If voltage is still not present, perform vehicle test using the DRB II diagnostic scan tool.
  10. If voltage is present at pin-7, but not at the supply wire:
    1. Check continuity between the supply wire. This is checked between the distributor connector and pin-7 at the PCM. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.
    2. Check for continuity between the Camshaft Position Sensor output wire and pin-44 at the PCM. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.
    3. Check for continuity between the ground circuit wire at the distributor connector and ground. If continuity is not present, repair the harness as necessary.
  1. While observing the voltmeter, crank the engine with ignition switch. The voltmeter needle should fluctuate between 0 and 5 volts while the engine is cranking. This verifies that the camshaft position sensor in the distributor is operating properly and a sync pulse signal is being generated. NOTE: If sync pulse signal is not present, replacement of the Camshaft Position Sensor is necessary.

No spark

before you replace the computer have the crank sensor replace it is located between transmission and engine by the driver's side on top of transmission
most likelly your computer is ok
the distribuitor has nothign to do with spark on this cars
