Tip & How-To about Jeep Cherokee

Indicater or flasher problem on jeep cherokee 2003

If your having problems with your indicater or flashers on your vehicle then their are a couple of things that would be causing you problems. Now if when you press left or right turn the light flashes fast when turning one way but not the other then this indicates you have a blown bulb on the side that is causing it to flash faster so you need to press it to that side and have a look at the front and back bulbs and change the one thats not working.

If on the other hand your flasher/indicater works sometimes and not others then this is usually down to the flasher relay located in fuse box (see pictures below)
To find out if it is the relay and not the flasher control that you press to turn the indicator lights on is to try using the hazard warning light button press this and if this works every time then the chances are its the control and not the relay (see pictures below) but if it sometimes works and sometimes dont or if it dont work at all then this points towards the relay so changing this should then solve your problem

FLASHER REMOVAL

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative lead.

My 2002 Dodge Ram Idles after putting aftermarket air filter....also My turn Signal Doesnt work properly, there is no flasher relay on this truck

You have a SHORT inside your Flasher Relay (There is a Flasher Relay or Flasher FUSE) in your vehicle and that will take care of your Blinkers...

Isn't it a good thing that your vehicle Idles?

I think I am missing something in your question

the signal flashers are goin extremely fast on my 2004 alero

usaully when flasher goes extremely fast this means you have a blown light bulb on one or more of your indicaters , if it is only when you indicate left then the globe is on left of vehicle , and on the right same rules apply , both sides then more then one globe is blown ...

turn on and step out your car and check globes .
hope this helps..

Turn signals work and then turn off -nothing, then may work again a few times and off again

i can only think of 2 things , 1 is that your flasher relay needs changing , this usualy is under the dash in most vehicles near your legs whilst driving , this relay is usualy round shaped like a mini coke can , i would suggest replacing this first as this is the cheaper option , if not succefull it may be the indicater arm itself which would require you to remove steering wheel to remove and replace!

but the first option sounds like the cause as relay contacts may be shorting out and getting stuck , thus being the reason for working intermittantly . if both these solution fail then you may have a short in the wiring , but have faith and try the cheaper option first .

good luck

indicater works well on left side. but when indicating right they only work now and again. all lamps and connections are good. can it be the flasher unit?

this is a fault usually found as a problem from the multifunction switch.
it is quite common for these to wear out. you will need to replace the multifunction switch. the flasher unit is actually before the multifunction switch there fore both sides would be doing the same thing.
