My wives car battery kept going dead and had to be recharged often because it wasn't driven enough to keep the battery charged.
A friend told me about the Solar Panel and I bought one and haven had a problem since.
It really works great not only for the car battery but also for Trucks, boats, camping gear and RVs that have a 12V Battery.

Battery drawn dead over night.

There are a lot of things it could be, like you said. You could try testing them one by one with a short circuit/continuity tester like this:

Or a multimeter at the continuity setting (looks like: ))).
For the inspection, I disconnected my battery and it reset the computer. However, they told me I needed at least 50 miles of history on it before they could pass it. Just make sure you have driven it for a few days after you disconnect the battery so the computer has some emissions history and you should be fine.

My mother has a 2006 LS 430 Lexus with only 5500 miles. The battery dying is a constant issue. She goes to start the car and it is dead. She has replaced the battery three times. No electrics are left on. If it sits over a day there isn't enough power to start the car. The local service station tells her she must drive it daily. That is unrealistic. Help!

It sounds like the Alternator is bad or isn't charging teh battery completely. Or if this is the same station that has been selling her batteries they have a bad batch of weak batteries. Have the battery tested for dead cells. If there are none then put it on a charge and fully charge it and test the alternator. Auto zone can test both and will do so for free but you will have to remove the alternator for testing.

Battery on a porsche boxster is dead will not start up

If the battery is VERY dead it may take quite a while jump start the car. You may have to run the car with the good battery for five or ten minutes to get enough charge in the old battery to start the car. Other wise a very dead battery will just "soak up" the electricity from the good battery. If your battery was old to begin with it may be unserviceable. I would take the battery out and take it to an auto parts store that can charge and test it. They will usually do this for free.
