Saturn L-Series - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support - Page 2
I have a 2003 Saturn L300 6 cylinder. Last week
This has nothing to do with the heat on the vehicle .
Reduced Power
The reduced power telltale is turned ON by the cluster when it receives a command from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) (L81) engine sends a message to the BCM over the CAN serial data link.
The reduced power telltale is illuminated when the ECM is limiting engine torque in a low traction situation. This telltale is used only for the V6 (L81) engine application.
The reduced power telltale is turned ON by the cluster for 2-3 seconds, when the ignition is turned to RUN, for a visual system check.
Taking the vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having it diagnosed would be your best . Unless you have a factory tech 2 scan tool to read BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's an have factory diagnostic repair info.
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
• Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
• Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.
My saturn will turn over but won't start all
Check the vent in the gas cap. Vacuum in the tank will build up and prevent fuel flow till relieved. When it won’t start, take off the gas cap and listen for the sound of air rushing into the tank.
2001 Saturn v6 will not turn over
Tends to be pointing at a faulty /tired startermotor.
If you are capable of reaching the starter attatch a test light to igniter lead on solinoid and chrck if it is getting power when key turned to start of position. Ifit is getting power , remove it for refurbishment
My daughters 2000 Saturn died while driving. When
Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. Does it start and run? Do the brake lites work? Usually, you step on the brake in order to shift. With some shift interlock systems there is a bypass button by the shifter, You press that button to shift into neutral with brake set. I don't know if this vehicle has that bypass button, you'll have to look.
If the vehicle is still sitting along side the road, call a tow truck, have them take it home or to a repair shop. It's no fun trying to work on a vehicle along side of a busy street.
My 2001 saturn L200. series
Sounds like a ground issue...Check your battery post and ground wires..Also could be vapor locked..Next time it stalls loosen your gas cap...If you here air suction going back into your car and if starts up that could be the problem..Your vapor canister is clogged causing the pressure in your gas tank to become greater than your gas pump...Then the car shuts off until the pressure in gas tank goes back down..
How do I disconnect the warning chime?
Key in ignition chime ?
Saturn L-Series ?????? L what ? L100 ,L200 , L300
Audible Warnings
The body control module (BCM) will provide an audible warning for various events relating to the vehicle. The functions that provide an audible warning are the key in ignition, the lights on, the occupant restraint (seat belt) and the park brake.
Key in the Ignition Audible Chime
The BCM will provide an audible chime if the key is left in the ignition in either OFF or the accessory position with the driver's door open. The chime rate for this is 150 chimes per minute. The key in the ignition chime has a higher priority than the lights on chime.
Lights on Audible Chime
The BCM will provide an audible chime if the park lights are on and the driver's door is open. In addition, 1 or 2 other conditions exist. The key is out of the ignition, or the key is in the ignition in the OFF position, and has not been turned. The BCM will chime at a rate of 200 chimes per minute until the conditions are removed.
Occupant Restraint Audible Chime
The BCM will provide an audible chime based on the class II message received from the SDM if the driver's seat belt is not buckled when the ignition is turned to run or crank. The chime rate for this feature is 50 chimes per minute.
Park Brake Audible Chime
The BCM will provide an audible chime for park brake when the park brake is applied and the vehicle speed is higher that 3 mph. The chime rate for this feature is 200 chimes per minute.
You can't disconnect anything . The problem has to be fixed .

Telltale Chimes
The body control module (BCM) will provide 4 chimes for each telltale activation per ignition cycle, at a rate of 150 or 200 chimes per minute. The chimes are limited to 1 chime event per telltale for each ignition cycle. The power up telltale function will not activate the telltale chime function. If the telltale becomes active during a cycle then the chime will sound.
The following telltales will activate the chime function:
• Low Washer Fluid
• Change Oil Soon Indicator
• Brake Fluid Low
• Oil Pressure Low
• Coolant Temperature Hot
• Low Coolant Level
• Low Fuel Level
• Antilock Brake System
• Volts Light (Generator)
• Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System (Air Bag)
• Trunk or Hatch Ajar
Having the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's in the BCM would be the first step in the diagnostic procedure .
DTC B2965
When the ignition key is seated in the ignition switch, the key-in-ignition switch contacts the close, grounding circuit 80. The body control module (BCM) monitors the state of the key-in-ignition switch, the state of the ignition switch (OFF, ACC, or RUN) and the driver's door to control the key-in-ignition chime.
Replacing power sterring pressure line for saturn L300 2004 station wagon and hte last connector to the pump absolutely wont thread on.
Check to see the thread pitch is the same on the threads of both units.
Here's a simple way to do it if you don't have a thread pitch gauge.
Stack both ends that screw into the end your having issues with and see if the thread matches. If they do you will see minimum daylight between the threads, and they will line up perfectly. If they don't line up you are wasting your time trying. Take the old one in with you to get the replacement one (if possible of course).
This photo is a little exaggerated, but hopefully it helps. Obviously these are of a different thread pitch.

Resistance problem , pulling too much current . Voltage drop test the circuit . Videos on youtube .
How can i diagnose the knocking in my 2000 saturn ls1
You have SERIOUSLY DAMAGED your engine,, the ONLY way to know what is wrong with your engine is total disassembly..
(JUST BUY A FRESHLY REBUILT ENGINE)
Your mechanic is 100% CORRECT!!
it may not be worth repairing.. ITS GOING TO COST AT LEAST $3500.00 - $4000.00 - SORRY..
My 2002 Saturn L300 will not crank, the service
What do you mean by
will not crank ???? As a automotive technician of over thrity years i have heard a lot of different answer's for this . To me, an all professional technicians, will not crank means the engine will not turn over . Turning the key to the start position an nothing happens . I have heard people say the engine turns over but will not crank . Service engine light ,check engine light etc.... On means DTC'S are stored . What code's does your vehicle have stored ? Your best bet ,take it to a qualified repair shop .
