Rw77766, This sounds like you have a low coolant light coming on. When your engine is cold, check the coolant level and add some if needed. Also check the overflow bottle and see if there is any coolant in there. If not then, once again, add some to the level indicated on the side of the bottle. If the problem persists, then you have a coolant leak or bad coolant level sensor and should have it checked out. Good luck with this.

I don't own a Chevy, but the description sounds like low brake fluid. Dashboard lights normally reserve red for brakes- I believe that it is a standard of some kind.

Sounds like a low coolant indicator.
Is the car running hot? Check and top off coolant (Radiator fluid) but do NOT open radiator cap if the engine has run in the past hour. Most times you top off the fluid by filling seperate reservoir

A little red light comes on with a arrow pointing down and by the looks of it there are little waves in it. The light is in the shape of a rectangle.

On the dashboard circle that shows the numbers that tell how the engine is revving (?), etc...a red light has been coming on and then going off a few minutes later...symbol: small black arrow pointing down...

Red lights are always a warning of some kind. In this case you don't mention the make or model of car but I'm willing to bet it means the water level is low. Check the coolant level or the washer bottle level.
