P1491 NEON 1998 - 1998 Dodge Neon

The radiator fan relay should be in the Power Distribution Center, the box on the left fender well under the hood. Remove the cover and look at the diagram on the inside of the cover for the location of this relay.

Should be located in the power distribution center. It is literally a $30 part. There is not a recall on your worn out relay.

Set condition: An open or shorted condition is detected in the radiator fan relay control circuit.

Possibilities:
Fan relay ground circuit open
Fused B+ circuit open
Rad fan control relay defective
RF relay output circuit volt cycles over to batt voltage
RF relay control circuit open
RF relay ctrl rly ckt wir harness observable or intermittant defect
RF relay ctrl ckt short to ground
Defective PCM

i remember someone else asking this question and another expert said it was behind the bumper ?? ,right looking in the dreaded haynes book and its right side ,no thats a 98 model a 99 model is left side next to vacumn tank ,earlier model its under behind the battery

There should have been an erase button on the scanner they used at advance, this should erase the memory

Trouble code P1491 means: Radiator fan relay control circuit problem.

Code P1491 is not the PVC Valve.It is the Vacuum Cut Valve Bypass Valve.
Which is located above and away from the egr canister under the driver side rear bumper it is round and have about 3 hoses connected to it. if it is from a check engine light that says look at vacume cut valve check the egr canisters purge valve some times they stick and throw the wrong code

First, the easy way is to just bypass the relays all together. Install a switch on the inside of the car like you would fog lights. This will solve the problem of replacing thing after thing and wasting money. Just a $7.00 fix. After doing that unplug all the sensors and then the battery for at least 60 second to reset the computer. Than restart the car and the check engine light should go out, may take a day or so. Same thing with your gas cap, re-securing it will take a day or so for the light to go out. Good luck. I love my '97 neon.
